Today we're celebrating a meaningful milestone and the power of partnerships! 🌟 Field & Fork Network is thrilled to introduce 🍎 Double Up Food Bucks NY 🍎 at Toomey Abbott Market. This initiative, in collaboration with Syracuse Housing Authority (SHA) and Syracuse Onondaga Food System Alliance (SOFSA), is not just about fresh produce—it's about empowering their community. Toomey Abbott Market, strategically located beneath Toomey Abbott Towers, a 300-apartment SHA high-rise, ensures accessibility to essential groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables, for seniors and individuals with disabilities living in the community. For those facing barriers to food access, this is more than a store; it's a lifeline. We extend our gratitude to Senator Rachel May, Assemblyman Magnarelli, and Deputy Commissioner for City Planning & Sustainability, Owen Kerney, for joining us to announce the milestone to the community. Senator Rachel May said of the program: “Good nutrition is the basis for a long and fulfilling life; however, for those in need, lack of access and affordability make it challenging to eat healthy fruits and veggies. Double Up Food Bucks is an excellent program helping bridge the divide between some in our community and a nutritious lifestyle." Further highlighting the power of partnership, Assemblyman Magnarelli said: “The launch of Double Up Food Bucks at Toomey Abbott Market demonstrates the close partnership of the Field & Fork Network and Syracuse Housing Authority. The program fills a need of the residents of Toomey Abbott Towers. Without this opportunity for the residents of Toomey Abbott to purchase fresh produce under this cost-saving program, the disparities of a food desert would continue to widen. Sadly, as I observe the food supply system and marketplace, I am finding that garden paths have increased in number and are getting longer with winding and confusing loops that continuously go around. The industry has no shortage of tour guides, trainers, coaches, consultants, regulators, industry associations, service or solution provider, audit scheme promoters, etc., many of whom are themselves confused. An overwhelming number of unsuspecting subscribers have become drawn into the entrapping vortex of confusion with illusions of having "enjoyable" and "informative" rides on roller coasters. Meanwhile, with monetary gains as the predominant measure of success, casualties of contaminated food are mounting in all regions of the world. Have you seen any signs of the recklessness in the food supply system. Worse, have you in one form or another, become engulfed in the travesty or tragedy? 📍: Rendering of Detroit Food Commons | Credit: Brinker Group The Detroit People's Food Co-op an African American-led initiative, is a community-owned grocery cooperative slated to launch in Detroit's North End in February 2024. With a mission to tackle food insecurity, the co-op emphasizes nutritional awareness, sustainability, backing local enterprises, and channeling resources back into the community. The idea for the co-op originated from discussions within the DETROIT BLACK COMMUNITY FOOD SECURITY NETWORK INC, which was established in 2006 to support existing co-ops and create a new one. It was born from the community's desire to combat the economic practices in Black communities within the food industry. There is only one Black-owned grocery store in Detroit, the Linwood Fresh Market, which is a recent addition. The co-op aims to challenge this disparity and prevent the profits from leaving the community by promoting community ownership and reinvesting in the area. Celebrating 10 Years of Foodgen2 一代传一代， 一代胜一代 Today, we mark a significant milestone as we proudly commemorate the 10th anniversary of Foodgen2 (FG2)! This remarkable club was born with the noble mission of providing unwavering support to 2nd generation food business owners like ourselves, and what an incredible journey it has been. A decade ago, visionary minds in the food industry recognized the unique challenges faced by second-generation business owners, mainly when working within a family business and alongside our parents. These challenges often require a delicate balance between maintaining family dynamics and achieving business goals. At times, we find ourselves grappling with obstacles that are difficult to comprehend for those outside our circle. Sharing such concerns with our biological siblings might not always yield the understanding and advice we seek. But that's where the true beauty of FG2 comes to light. We discover a treasure trove of shared experiences, empathy, and wisdom within this community. When I joined FG2 a year ago, I could not have anticipated its profound impact on my life. It felt like reconnecting with a long-lost family – a network of brothers and sisters who not only understand our challenges but can also offer valuable guidance based on their journeys. Together, we have cultivated a nurturing space to freely exchange ideas, learn from one another, and grow personally and professionally. The power of camaraderie and mutual support is immeasurable, and FG2 has become my second family – a sanctuary of shared ambitions and aspirations. As we celebrate this momentous occasion, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each member of FG2. Your openness, authenticity, and willingness to lend a helping hand have transformed this club into an extraordinary community.
