“So why are you working on **this**?” I get asked this more times than I can count 😊 This picture represents the best answer I can provide. And here’s why: Growing up, doing my hair was never a “fun time”. It was definitely going to take up the whole day. It was going to hurt . . . a lot. And by the end, I was never sure whether I was going to like what my hair ultimately looked like. I wish I could say the salon experience was better - but unfortunately, it provided the perfect conditions to build the deepest insecurities about my hair type and texture. From the moment I walked in, the walls were covered with glamour shots of people who never looked like me and all had hair I certainly didn’t have. Whether explicitly or not, I was always made to feel that I was coming in for a “correction”. My hair - as it naturally existed - was a problem to be fixed. And whether that was through the application of harsh chemical straightening products or tucked away and under super tight so-called “protective styles” - the message was clear: my hair was not “good hair”. Only in dreams would I imagine an existence where I could enjoy the process of taking care of my hair. One where I could sit back, relax and look forward to how my hair would **feel** like. And better yet - maybe be able to replicate the experience of a hair salon in the comfort of my home so I could wear my natural hair easily and anytime. The SOTRO DUO is the by-product of that dream - and what’s really powerful is that so many others with curly hair textures have had the same dream. And now that dream gets to be a reality. TL/DR: To help all of us fall in love ourselves is why I do this ❤️
