As a Black American woman with dark skin, a wide nose, and natural hair, my journey through the fashion industry has been both challenging and enlightening. My unique perspective is shaped by navigating an industry that often glorifies Eurocentric beauty standards, leaving little room for true diversity and authenticity.
I believe in advocating for real change in fashion... not just superficial inclusivity that fits into a social popularity contest, but genuine representation that celebrates all forms of beauty.
Let's have a conversation about:
- Moving beyond tokenism to true inclusivity
- Respecting and honoring cultural heritage without appropriation
- Embracing diverse aesthetics and stories in the fashion narrative
It's time for the fashion world to reflect the rich tapestry of global beauty. How do you think we can push for more authentic representation and real change in the industry? Share your thoughts below.

An impressive 50,000+ #Black women are innovating in the United States–but not without the uphill battle of fighting bank funding denials, limited access to capital, and systemic #racism and #sexism.
If you know me, you know I love supporting Black businesses and brands.
With tons of fashion brands emerging from Europe, DESERI is a Black woman-owned fashion brand crafting signature handbags and jewelry that are timeless, elegant, and undeniably of the moment.
Each handbag is handmade and a true work of art that reflects the skill of the artesian and the eye of the designer.
With a deep appreciation for and commitment to quality, Deseri Kelley created a brand that is the embodiment of luxury made accessible.
#RepresentationMatters. Deseri took a leap and launched a fashion brand that women #entrepreneurs like myself can use and feel elevated in.
There are a million handbag brands out there, but very few are Black woman-owned and able to meet the mass market where they are.
The British Fashion Council has launched its first UK fashion diversity, equity and inclusion report in partnership with not-for-profit diversity advocacy organisations The Outsiders Perspective and Fashion Minority Report.
Launched this morning at an event at London’s Barbican Centre, the report found that only 9% of executive and board roles in the UK fashion industry are held by people of colour, and only 39% by women.
Only 11% of “power roles” – which the report defines as CEO, CFO, chairman and creative director – are held by people of colour, and only 24% by women.
It found that while 86% of white men in the industry believe the industry is diverse, only 46% of women of colour believe the industry is diverse.

Fashion is fleeting; exploiting is forever.
Tommy Hilfiger is an American fashion designer and founder of a publicly trade clothing brand company.
The data shows 76.3% of Tommy Hilfiger $4.7B company value comes from exploiting Black creativity, likeness and influence for commercial use, since 1990. [Source: Kellogg Brand Value Report 2023]
It’s not OK to exploit Black Creators without investing in Black communities proportionate to your gross extraction level.
We call forward Tommy Hilfiger executive leadership Martijn Hagman CEO and Virginia Ritchie CMO to change the way you participate with Black Culture.

𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭..!

How often do we find ourselves attributing our worth to material possessions rather than the authenticity that defines us from within? 💎✨
In a world that constantly bombards us with external measures of success, it's crucial to pause and reflect on what truly defines our worth. Recently, I stumbled upon an ad featuring the incredible Kate Winslet, and it beautifully resonates with this sentiment.
𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞: " 𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬. 𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮. 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭..! " 🌈💖
It's a powerful reminder that our self-worth isn't determined by the brands we wear or the possessions we accumulate. Instead, it's about embracing our true selves, celebrating our uniqueness, and recognizing the beauty that comes from authenticity. 💪🌟
Let's challenge the societal narrative that often ties our value to external factors. Let's prioritize self-love, inner strength, and genuine connections over superficial measures of success.
Join me in championing authenticity! Share your thoughts on what defines your worth beyond materialism. Let's inspire each other to embrace the beauty of being authentically ourselves.

Troye Sivan - let's talk about him.
Yesterday, I had the incredible experience of attending Troye's concert in London. Troye is not just an extraordinary artist; he’s a cultural icon who challenges gender stereotypes in the most remarkable ways. His ability to flow seamlessly between masculine and feminine energy on stage and beyond is truly inspiring and a testament to his boldness in embracing his true self.
Troye's relevance extends far beyond his music. He’s collaborated with brands like Prada and Miu Miu, showcasing his unique style and influence in the fashion world. These partnerships highlight his ability to bridge the gap between music and fashion, further solidifying his status as a multifaceted cultural influencer.
One of the highlights of the night was when Troye brought Charli XCX on stage. Charli, fresh off the success of her 'BRAT' album launch, added an extra layer of excitement to the evening. Together, they demonstrated the powerful blend of music, fashion, and social influence. Charli's ability to blend brand energy marketing with cultural adoption is a testament to her understanding of contemporary marketing and creative expression.
Moreover, Troye’s understanding and adept use of social media content amplify his reach, making him a powerful voice in contemporary culture. He leverages platforms to connect authentically with his audience, share his journey, and promote messages of inclusivity and self-expression.
In a world where authenticity and breaking norms are increasingly celebrated, Troye Sivan stands out as a beacon of creativity and inclusivity. His work encourages us to embrace all aspects of ourselves and to challenge societal norms. Watching him perform was a reminder of the power of art to inspire change and the importance of supporting voices that push boundaries. 💅 The cosmetics market is currently focusing on the diversity aspect of the human population because that’s the untapped market. Today, beauty products cater to and reach out to every ethnicity, demography, skin tone type, and region. Companies are putting immense research and investment into rolling out a business model to increase their revenue and profits. For some time now, the beauty industry has realized the importance of the representation of black beauty in cosmetics.
💅The market for black beauty in cosmetics is huge, backed by emotional demand. Thus, a manufacturer that can cater to the needs with quality, cost-effectiveness, and results can impact this open market with immense opportunities to offer. Also, studying the deep-rooted issue of colorism and skin tones, assimilating it with cultural references, and inviting black beauty to represent products can lead to untapped revenues.
