With Black Friday only days away, CCJ Research Specialist Ernesto Lopez argues in The Dallas Morning News that we need better data on shoplifting – from law enforcement and the retail industry – to fully understand the scope of the problem across the U.S. Read more at:

What a great day on stage at #RCCSTORE2024 yesterday chatting #loyalty & #data.
It was great to be on stage with these incredible humans, Dustin Fuhs,Shawn Stewart, Jason Beales, CFA, and Liza Amlani.
I want to thank my teammates at the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation for the incredible work they do on the AIR MILES Reward Program. It gave me lots to share with the group!
Here are my top 4 takeaways from our chat:
Understand the data you are collecting and how you can apply it to improve your shopper experience in-store and online!
Get your team involved – don’t ask them to only swipe, share why we want the swipes or membership number and how we use the information we collect to impact our shoppers and the business.
Your loyalty program is a currency understand how you get shoppers to use it in multiple ways to create value.
The true measure of a strong loyalty is not only the earn but the burn. Are your collectors finding value enough in the program to use the points or dollars they collect?

Tis the season for blatantly manipulative memes.
According to the consumer price index, December 1990 to November 2023 saw a 229% increase. But if we have a target inflation rate of 3%, compounding annually, that would result in 265% in 33 years. So the overall period, inclusive of the post-COVID surge, averages less than 3% a year, which is supposed to be “healthy.”
Add to this that the median U.S. household income grew 243% between 1990 and 2022, increasing the buying power by around 6%.
Take these holiday economics memes with a very large grain of salt and ask yourself “what is this trying to make me feel?” If it’s outrage, fact check that effer.

How is Christmas shopping feeling this year? That dollar of ours isn’t going as far…
Loved this image about costs today vs when Kevin had to go shopping on his own.
Good thing he had that coupon!
