THIS is Glassdoor's #1 company to work for?! 👀 I'll be honest...the company (Bain) didn't shock me as much as the industry the company operates in. My first thought when hearing that a consulting company was a top workplace was "wow, the Stockholm Syndrome is strong here". But then, as I read through the reviews, things started to make sense. The reviews didn't praise work-life balance, benefits (though the benefits are fantastic), or catered lunches. They all talked about the work itself and the ability to grow within the company. Which led me to the realization... Bain is a company that knows how to attract A-Players. Consulting is cutthroat, and the competition for top talent is fierce. The people who want challenging work, opportunities to showcase their talent, and build their careers in a competitive environment get everything they want and more at Bain. Bain wants top talent, and they provide the perfect working environment FOR top talent. It's a perfect match between industry, type of work, workplace, and employees. More companies can take a lesson from this "match-made-in-heaven" approach to attracting A-Players. #bainandcompany #hr #glassdoor #recruiting

When universities start laying off whole departments, and the big consulting companies start paying staff to leave, you know the mother and father of economic downturns is on its way. But how can that be, when we‘re constantly told how there are more job vacancies than people to fill them? Listening to people looking for work in this brutal, bitter climate, a ‘jobs bonanza‘ is not what I‘m hearing. People sending hundreds of applications, many of them not even receiving a reply (as HR departments start channeling their ‘inner shits‘). If there really was such a skills shortage, surely employers would be running after candidates? Like most things about this country in 2024, this story just stinks of bullshit. Is there really anything about crumbling, flaky, mendacious Britain that is really taking off? Of course not. And, doing some digging around, I find the explanation in an article in HR Review from last October: “Jobseekers in the United Kingdom are facing a daunting challenge as a startling 34.4 percent of job advertisements listed online have been identified as ‘ghost jobs,’ a practice where companies create fake job openings for their own benefit.” That‘s what the HR industry is itself admitting. So for 34.4% read 70%+. And there you have it.
