Had the privilege of participating in the Cork South Central Community Safety Forum earlier this week, hosted by Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí & An Garda Síochána. From discussions on sub-standard housing to tackling drug use and the concerning presence of drug paraphernalia, it's evident that collaborative efforts are needed to address these challenges effectively. Every member of our community deserves safe and healthy living conditions, and it's imperative that we work together to ensure no one is left behind. Additionally, the lack of police presence highlighted during the forum emphasises the importance of enhancing community policing efforts. Building trust and fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and residents is key to creating safer neighbourhoods. Moreover, it's crucial to recognise the impact of social determinants of health on our community's wellbeing. Factors like housing quality, the built environment, and socio-economic status significantly influence health outcomes. By addressing these determinants, we can strive towards a healthier, more equitable future for all. I hope to continue to advocate for positive change and work collaboratively towards building a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community! 💪🏽🏡 #CommunitySafety #PublicHealth #Advocacy #Collaboration #SocialJustice

How much do you know about Labor Day? In Arkansas, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders wants facts removed from the educational curriculum that would make “our children” hate each other or the United States. She wants kids focusing on the basics: math and reading not history, politics or social studies. She’s among a growing number of politicians who want to santize United States history to make it more comfortable. But a failure to teach chattel slavery shows an unwillingness to teach about economics and technological innovation. Chattel slavery is as much about capital and labor costs as it is about racism. When we celebrate Labor Day in the context of chattel slavery we understand Labor Day as a deeper struggle in the fight for human dignity and civil rights. Happy Labor Day!! Understanding the Intersection of Community Engagement and Grievance Management. I wanted to share a key insight from a recent meeting that highlights the interconnectedness of community engagement and grievance management within corporations. During our recent gathering, which included our top manager, district environmental personnel, legal representation, and RUWASA personnel, we experienced a moment of joy amidst discussions that often revolve around addressing grievances. This underscores the importance of recognizing that effective community engagement is not merely about managing grievances but rather about building meaningful relationships and finding moments of shared satisfaction and progress.

ECAS Enforcement Teams, out spreading the messages against FOG; looking more like a Parking Enforcement or FOG SWAT Team!! Water Companies outsourcing their Regulatory obligations to private FOG SWAT Teams needs industry debate! Do you really need hi vis, body cams, radios and all that PPE to take a look at a kitchen's grease management?

It’s 2024, and policing and public safety overall are still a major point of tension in society today. It’s time to start investing in public safety approaches that work. The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is part of the Community Safety Working Group, a coalition of nearly 90 civil rights and justice organizations advocating for policies that actually achieve public safety. In April, the working group released the 2024 Community Safety Agenda calling for sustained investment in communities — ones who have historically been under-resourced and overpoliced — to address the root causes of crime and make our neighborhoods safer without resorting to the violent, biased policing with which too many communities must contend. Arne Duncan, founder of community violence intervention leader Chicago CRED says it best, "Ultimately, the jobs piece is hugely important because I can't ask people to put down the guns if they don't have a job to go to. Collectively if we can create a pipeline that the business community is willing to hire, then we have a chance to do something radically different as we go forward." Creating job opportunities, promoting fair employment practices, and investing in workforce development are critical components for supporting individuals in choosing paths of productivity and prosperity over violence. It's not just a corporate social responsibility; it's a fundamental duty of the corporate community to contribute to a safer, more inclusive world and especially a safer, more inclusive Chicago. #inclusion #opportunities #workforce #jobs #violenceintervention #violenceprevention #violencereduction #safercommunities #access #diversity #workforcedevelopment #fairchancehiring
