INDIA NEWS On World Environment Day, a report by staffing company TeamLease Services revealed a significant 23.7% growth in job demand within India's renewable energy sector during 2023-24, accompanied by a steady decline in attrition rates. The report highlighted that the sector experienced a notable increase in job demand, rising from 8.5% in FY23 to 23.7% in FY24. This surge is particularly evident in tier II and III cities, where most renewable energy projects are located. Positions in operations, maintenance, and technical roles are in high demand, alongside a rising need for solar PV and wind turbine technicians and installers, roofers, production operators, storage operators, and waste management specialists. TeamLease Services CSO Staffing Mr. Subburathinam P emphasized the positive trend in the renewable sector's workforce, noting that the decline in attrition rates to 33.5% in FY24 from 38.8% in FY23 reflects greater job satisfaction and stability among employees. The report, based on internal data from renewable energy companies, underscores the sector's commitment to creating an environment where talent thrives and contributes to a sustainable future. TeamLease Services CEO of Staffing Mr. Kartik Narayan highlighted the evolving dynamics of the industry, marking a transformative phase characterized by resilience and opportunities. Additionally, the report noted the educational diversity within the workforce, with 22.9 % having completed 10th and 12th grade, 73% holding ITI, diploma, or graduation degrees, and 4.1% possessing postgraduate degrees, reflecting the sector's inclusive hiring approach.

#solarenergy #sustainability #greenjobs India had an estimated 988,000 jobs in 🌞🌬️ renewable energy in 2022. 💦💡Hydropower was the largest employer among renewables, with around 466,000 jobs, followed by 🌞PV with 282,000 people involved in on-grid and off-grid systems. Other renewables represented only a small fraction of the total jobs. In 2022, India added 13.5 GW of 🌞PV capacity, which was a new record for the country, up from 10.3 GW in 2021. India's domestic 🌞 module production capacity grew from 10.4 GW in 2021 to 24.7 GW in 2022, and the country's 🌞 module exports more than quintupled in 2022, thanks to the US import restrictions imposed on Chinese products. According to IRENA, India had 201,400 jobs in grid-connected 🌞PV in 2022, a 47% increase from 2021, while roughly 80,000 people worked in off-grid 🌞. The 🌞 industry added a 💪 52,100 jobs in project development in fiscal year 2022, mainly in construction and installation. The utility-scale 🌞 sector accounted for 83% of added 🌞PV capacity, with a staggering total of 72,700 jobs. Rooftop 🌞 employment increased by 65,400 jobs from 43,000 jobs, while 🌬️ employment grew to 26,100 jobs from 25,500. It's important to note that these figures do not include indirect jobs, jobs in off-grid 🌞 applications, and jobs in equipment manufacturing. Despite a slowdown in the 🌬️ energy sector with only 1.9 GW added in 2022 compared to the peak installation of 4.1 GW in 2017, India still ranks fourth in the world in cumulative 🌬️ power generating capacity. The 🌬️ energy sector added only 600 new jobs in construction and installation. However, India's domestic annual 🌬️ turbine generator manufacturing capacity is estimated to be between 10-12 GW, indicating potential for significant growth in domestic installations and exports. IRENA estimates that the Indian 🌬️ sector had 40,000 jobs in 2022, with O&M representing almost half of the total. It's safe to say that India's 🌞🌬️ renewable energy sector is on a fast track for growth and development, creating jobs and paving the way for a sustainable future.
