Alana, Technology Analyst, joined the PRIDE Employee Resource Group (ERG) as a new employee over 12 years ago. Today she is an active member of two committees and hosts The PRIDE Podcast. "If you would have told me 12 years ago that I would create and host a podcast at work, I would have laughed. Working for an organization that provides platforms like The PRIDE Podcast for State Farm employees to discuss topics related to LGBTQ+ employees and allies makes me proud." Alana credits the PRIDE ERG for helping make State Farm feel more like family than just work. "All the people I have met along my journey with State Farm are some of the best people I have known. I met my wife and some of my best friends here!" Looking for an inclusive work environment where you can connect and be yourself? Check out our current career opportunities at https://lnkd.in/gZ5WskN

And at the same time companies struggle with finding overarching Diversity, Equity and Inclusion actions that are authentic and inclusive of the entire organization. 💡 And this is where voluteering LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) can provide a safe space for community awareness and solidarity and have a huge impact in advocating for inclusive policies and drive positive change within the organizations. For fertility benefits for example, we see that the presence of ERGs is a driving force for communication which significantly increases the utility rate for benefits. ➡️ So, join an existing ERG, as part of the community or as ally, or start initiating one in your company - find out how to start one in our newest blog post! #EmployeeBenefit #LGBTQinWorkplace #InclusiveWorkplace

A new report details the role social media plays in the lives of young people, and how they manage the various pros and cons — including in the context of being a person of color or LGBTQ+, or having depression. Those benefits and drawbacks include valuing online platforms for social connection, self-expression and information, while also feeling the brunt of social media’s effects on their attention span, confidence and contentedness, according to the report released Tuesday by Common Sense Media and Hopelab, a social innovation lab and impact investor aiming to support the well-being of young people. Imagine feeling like you can’t talk about your weekend plans because it might reveal something about you that could be judged. Imagine going to work every day, not wanting anyone to know your partner’s name for fear of how your colleagues might react. Or imagine feeling your job was at risk because you needed to take time to advocate for a loved one. For many people in the LGBTQ+ community, that is their lived reality. As a result, they hold back. They modulate. In an environment where we celebrate high performance and achievement, we must be willing to create a culture where everyone feels comfortable showing up as their whole, authentic selves. I believe our ability to succeed as individuals and as teams relies on it. This #PrideMonth, and every month, I challenge us all to remember that ally is a verb. Let’s lead with empathy, and go the extra mile to put ourselves in others’ shoes so we can better understand their lived realities. Most importantly, we must be the voice that creates and protects inclusive cultures, even when it’s uncomfortable to do so.

What is the most challenging part of the holidays for you? For me, it's spending time deciding how "political" it's worth getting in conversations with friends and family members, even when I know the likely conclusion. For so many LGBTQ+ people, the #holidays can feel like a minefield of challenges like this and others, and I would love to help those gatherings feel a little less daunting! Every year, I host a public event called "Home for the Holidays", which focuses on what people can do to support their LGBTQ+, specifically transgender, children, family members, and loved ones, or themselves, at challenging family gatherings. We review mental health strategies, conversation tactics, create a "coming out plan", and have plenty of time for discussion and Q&A. I love running this event, and will certainly be hosting a public version of it later this month, but also realized that this could be a fantastic event for a company, support group, or ERG! If you run a #PrideERG, lead a #supportgroup, or are in charge of #DEI, at your organization, I would love to have the opportunity to host a Home for the Holidays event for your team! If you're in my network, I would love it if you could boost this post or send it to folks you think might be interested!

Hear from Ryan Roberts this Pride Month, a driving force behind Alchemy's Community and Allies initiative. As we strive to create a more equitable workplace, Ryan's words resonate as a call to action for promoting inclusivity and embracing diversity. "We decided to establish Alchemy Community & Allies for several compelling reasons," Ryan explains. "Firstly, to cultivate an environment where employees from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences feel safe, supported, and empowered. By bringing together colleagues from diverse cultures and perspectives, we can celebrate the unique contributions of each individual. To have a support network to serve as a platform for employees to connect, network and build supportive relationships. Moreover, Ryan underscores the pivotal role of advocacy in driving systemic change. "We aim to advocate for change and address unconscious bias by amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups and allies, to drive change and promote a more inclusive workplace culture, raise awareness of these issues, and promote accountability." Join us in fostering an inclusive culture that empowers every voice by continuing to raise awareness, providing platforms for visibility, and celebrating the invaluable diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. 🏳️🌈 #PrideMonth #PrideMonth2024 #AlchemyCommunityandAllies

Cheers to a month of celebration and reflection, the month of honouring various aspects of our society. It's Youth Month! This is a time to recognise the energy, creativity, and potential of us young people. It's also Men's Mental Health Month, highlighting the importance of mental well-being among men, breaking stigmas, and promoting support. Moreover, June is recognised globally as Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community's resilience, diversity, and contributions. This intersection of themes is a powerful reminder of the importance of acceptance and inclusivity in our society. Acceptance is about embracing people for who they are, regardless of their age, gender, or sexual orientation. It's about creating a world where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported. By accepting and celebrating our differences, we can create a kind and understanding society for all. Let's remember to support our youth, promote mental health awareness especially among men, and stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. Together, we can create a more accepting and inclusive world for everyone. #Hr #Shiluvah #PeopleManagement #YouthMonth #MensMentalHealth #PrideMonth
