In my early days as a co-founder in Boston, I witnessed firsthand how startups, flush with funding, often splurged on non-essentials— Ramy Arnaout, MD, DPhil and Ryan Jones, do remember that large box of whiteboard cleaner we found a failed startup bought and left behind? On the other hand, our team’s frugal approach, supported by a few angel investors, led us to far better success. Well, this experience cemented my philosophy of cautious scaling. Today, I’m still guided by this principle. While it might be tempting to scale quickly, I’ve chosen to expand thoughtfully. Currently, I’m focusing on growing from 10 to 100 test sites—scaling by 10x, but wisely, addressing real-time needs without jumping ahead. For now, each control device I assemble is by hand. It won't scale, but it will bring me closer to this goal. It’s about laying a solid foundation, learning from each step, and ensuring that every growth phase is sustainable and justified.

After 3 long months, our SEEDTank pitching event is finally back! Held last Thursday to an amazingly engaging crowd of 80ish, we had 3 startups that pitched for their seed stage investment to SEED Ventures and other investors. More importantly, the panel provided so much invaluable insights to controversial topics concerning startup valuation that hinder fund-raising in today’s climate. Wise words as quoted by Eric, ‘Your passion, belief and determination & don't set your enterprise apart from others. These are the base qualities required of anyone that starts a business.
