Ashton Mayoral Development Zone designation approved by GM leaders The area to be covered by the Ashton Mayoral Development Zone (AMDZ) has now been approved by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). The zone focuses on three principal sites, Ashton Moss, St Petersfield, and Ashton town centre which sit in the Eastern Growth Cluster - one of six growth locations across Greater Manchester. The approval of the zone will help raise Tameside’s profile to help maximise opportunities for joint working. Building on the investment already underway around transport and digital links to bring together plans around the three key destinations relating to employment, residential and other commercial uses. A governing board and structure will now be created in collaboration with GMCA to collectively align public sector funding for projects, which will help realise the potential for the area and help form a business case and strategy combining work already being funded by GMCA and Homes England. The Mayoral Development Zone will also consider the impacts and benefits of development in the area and across the Eastern Growth Cluster and Tameside as a whole, with specific links to work already underway in respect of town centre regeneration, business supply chains, cluster networks and links between research and business all of which support our Inclusive Growth Strategy 2021-26. The cities of Southampton, Portsmouth, and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) are the driving forces behind the economic growth in the Central South region. With a combined population of almost 950,000 and over 495,000 jobs, these urban centers have historically competed rather than collaborated. Situated between the South East and South West regions, the lack of a clear geographical boundary has hindered the region's promotion. However, there has been a recent push by businesses and politicians to highlight the collective advantages of the Central South. Despite its potential, the region faces various physical, land, and planning obstacles that are holding back its growth. What are the main challenges that need to be addressed in order to unlock the region's full potential for growth?

Southampton, Portsmouth, and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) are the economic engines of the ‘Central South’, a region which is well-placed to realise its potential and deliver growth. With a population of nearly 950,000 people and around 495,000 jobs, the similar sized urban centres have often competed with each other, rather than complementing one another. Straddling both the South East and South West regions, the lack of a clearly defined geographical area has been a further blocker to the collective promotion of the region. In recent years, there has been a more concerted effort, by businesses and politicians alike, to promote the collective benefits of the region. Despite its clear benefits, the Central South has numerous physical, land and planning constraints and therefore currently underdelivers. So what are the key barriers to overcome to unlock growth?

Host of City Manager Unfiltered podcast | Founder of the American Association of Municipal Executives | Have largest and most engaged audience of city/county managers | Proud father of a United States Marine & Sailor
This rookie city manager made a huge blunder with respect to negotiating his contract. Please learn from him so that you do not repeat it. He started the job without having the terms of his contract negotiated and agreed upon. According to the article (link: https://lnkd.in/ehPpismf), Shawn Anderson started as Farrell’s city manager on May 1. However, Farrell officials are still working out the details of his contract. ---- Yikes. Never start a new job as a city manager until you have hammered out the details of your contract and in particular -- your severance agreement. When you start the job before agreeing to terms -- you have given up all of your negotiating leverage. It is foolish. ---- Imagine you were a finalist for a city manager vacancy negotiating your contract and you were also a member of the American Association of Municipal Executives. Wouldn't it be amazing if you could jump on a Zoom call with some peers to review your contract language and discuss negotiation tactics and strategies? You will be able to do that and more as a member of AAME.org. Sign up today to become a founding member.
