New vapor deposition tech could accelerate commercialization of perovskite solar cells: A U.S.-based team developed a vapor deposition technique to fabricate outperforming all-inorganic perovskite thin films in under 5 minutes in a continuous process. Photovoltaic panels consist of solar energy cell chips, divided into monocrystalline and polycrystalline materials. The manufacturing cost of monocrystalline cell chips is more expensive but the conversion efficiency is up to over 17%.suitable for large applications. Monocrystalline cell chips are cheap and the conversion efficiency is about 14%, suitable for small applications. When selecting, pick up the proper types according to the actual requirements.

Some of you may know that I am immersing myself in learning about renewable energy technology. In my reading and listening it is clear that battery technology (both for devices and for cities) are a critical component to the world’s energy transition. Check out this episode of How I built this. Lithium ion batteries are evolving. Replacing graphite with silicon will reduce charging times and increase electric vehicle range by up to 40%. Currently 95% of battery related graphite passes through China.
