In the current economic landscape, we find direct lending, especially in the U.S. middle market space, attractive relative to its risks. We exploit some of these opportunities through Nicola Private Debt Fund. In our product structuring and underwriting, these following approaches helped us better mitigate risks: 1. Floating interest rate loans are typically being offered 2. We favour senior secured term loans that maintain first right on collaterals 3. Most direct loans have at least one financial maintenance covenant 4. We collaborate with borrowers to foster closely-knitted relationship

In a significant step towards resolving Puerto Rico's ongoing financial challenges, the island's debt-ridden power utility, PREPA, is inching closer to a crucial deal with major bondholders BlackRock and Taconic Capital Advisors, according to a recent Bloomberg article. As the Friday deadline looms, negotiations are underway with Puerto Rico's financial oversight board to outline a debt-restructuring plan for Prepa, which carries a staggering $9 billion debt burden. This development marks a potential turning point for both Prepa and the island's ongoing efforts to modernize its aging power grid, a critical move for rejuvenating its economy. However, the path forward is not without obstacles. While the financial oversight board has secured a tentative agreement with a subset of investors holding significant portions of utility debt, the challenge now lies in garnering the endorsement of the majority of creditors. Notably, dissenting voices have emerged from a group of bondholders and insurers that have yet to be included in the proposal. This adds complexity to the situation and underscores the importance of consensus among stakeholders. As the negotiations unfold, the fate of this deal not only impacts Prepa's journey out of bankruptcy but also holds implications for Puerto Rico's broader economic recovery. What are your thoughts on the progress Puerto Rico is making in its efforts to restructure its debt and modernize its power grid? How do you see the potential involvement of major bondholders like BlackRock and Taconic impacting the outcome?
