Nick Dunlap is a 20-year-old sophomore from the The University of Alabama and has just become the youngest winner on the PGA TOUR since 1910.
As an amateur, he beat some of the best PGA golfers in the world in this past weekend's elevated event, the American Express Championship. He also became the first amateur to win since 1991.
During interviews all week, Nick was quoted as saying, "I'm just trying to learn as much as I can." Nick entered the tournament, having won the US Amateur the year before and has played in two US Opens through the United States Golf Association (USGA). He's no stranger to high-stakes competition at the highest levels.
Yet, Nick still entered the week with a #growthmindset.
He talked about acquiring as many learnings as possible as he walked inside the ropes with the world's best. He observed how the pros show up and prepare for the week of a tournament, where they register and eat, and how they manage their time and bodies throughout the week.
Nick learned a lot.
When asked in the post-round interview if he had homework to complete that night, he responded, "Yep....but I'm probably not going to do it." I'm sure you'll get a pass on that one.
Also, you should ensure you get a lovely gift from Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who took home first-place money (💰 $1.5M!) after finishing second to you, the amateur who can't take $$; although I'm sure that #NIL money will be pretty good.
The future is bright on the PGA Tour, and let this be a lesson to us all that when you operate from a place of continuous learning, there are no limits to your success.
