The prompt was "Draw something that has meaning to you." Using only the letter "C" as in Sta-cey, Jocelyn Fonseca drew this in her art class, and gifted it to me for my milestone birthday. I love that she chose me...and a photo from when I really was closer to 29 for the first time!
DO what you love... if you dare
Brilliant performance that illustrates how we sabotage our creative urges, the artist in us. How hard it is sometimes to do what your heart longs to do the most. How we troment ourselves by overthinking, by playing save, by trying to be cool and accepted. It is so human and such a torture that we sometimes put ourselves through.
If you have a couple of minutes, lean back and allow the power of language and the mastery of the artist to touch you. This is the purpose of art - to wake us up to what is real and urgent, to help us feel and wake up to life.
And if anything, it could be a great reminder that starting something new, daring to show yourself, and putting your ideas into this world in any form or shape is sometimes a heroic act.
So if you see a piece of art next time, might it be your teammate that dared to break the pattern, and implement something new, your child made a mess painting a picture... Look at it with your heart and if it evokes any emotions in you, that means that they put a piece of their soul in it and dared to show it to the world.
Doing what your heart, your soul, your intuition call you to, is art and often a heroic act. Because before you even face the judgment of the world, you have to win the biggest battle of your life - a battle with your own mind.
What I adore about Art Williams' speech here is his combination of character, rhythm and repetition. Towards the climax of his speech Art masterfully uses repetition to an extreme, humorous, powerful effect. His speed, pacing, and “drawl” on his accent quickly connect words that start to flow like a waterfall. Making this one of my favorite talks of all time.

Today is Video 3 & Day 3 of this 10-Day video series and we will be diving into the actual concept we landed on for the title piece, “The Wait We Carry”.
Hey ya’ll, it’s Clifton Henri, nationally recognized, award winning, fine art photographer.
It’s also Day 3 of me using the same ridiculous intro, but I’m sure by Day 10 it’ll be rolling off of all our tongues like water. (insert sarcastic face) LMAO.
After sitting with my thoughts for a few days I was pretty solid about using the idea of WAR and Child Soldiers for the piece.
We try to cope and prepare ourselves the best we can to handle the pressures of the day and the realities of the world.
It wasn’t until recently, as I was on the horizon of becoming a first time father, that I realized I would have to prepare and protect my child from these things too.
Preparing our kids for war is a sad reality but also an absolute necessity in the Black Community.
The sad fact is, if we don’t protect and prepare our children then they’ll be eaten alive.
I thought of a War Memorial Statue of sorts - that embodied the idea of Black America being told to WAIT.
A monument that recognizes the struggle of Black America and the fight we’ve had to endure for hundreds of years.
A dark profile & silhouette of a child soldier carrying the burden of a war he was born into.
Conceptually I wanted this piece to be an acknowledgement of this “WAIT WE CARRY”.
There is a ton to unpack here and i’ll continue to reveal those layers in the upcoming videos.

Tomorrow, Day 4 we’ll focus on how “The Wait We Carry” fits into the overall series and carries the theme.
Being that it’s the “signature” piece some of that will be obvious but, we’ll talk about it anyway. Lol

IMPACT of NOT having #NEURODIVERSITY
👎🏽 Don't #grow
👎🏽 Don't #learn
👎🏽 Don't see new #opportunities
👎🏽 Don't harness #talent
👎🏽 Reduced #socioeconomic mobility
Comes from and creates
❌ narrow mindset
❌ lack and scarcity model
❌ closed attitude
❌ deficit based approach
This is based on fear of difference, however without difference we stagnate, atrophy and lack progression and solutions and perspective.
#DIVERSITY BRINGS:
✅ #growth mindset
✅ #strengthbased approach
✅ #perspectives
✅ #opportunities
✅ #solutions
So to not embrace diversity must be damaging to us, our learning and businesses.
"Joy is one of my favorite words and a significant outcome of the arts. There are some things in life we cannot easily prove, or should not have to, because we simply and unapologetically know them to be true. The impact of joy is one of them."
