“Why did black British female viewers of the Women's World Cup skew older, more London centric & considerably more likely to support the Reggae Girlz over the Lionesses?” That was the subject of this month's edition of The Pulse - Black Ballad's new newsletter using exclusive BB data, case studies & analysis to help you better understand and ultimately serve black audiences and consumers. This newsletter revealed: 👩🏾 Gen-X black women were more than twice as likely to have watched the Women's World Cup than Gen-Z black women 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Only 27% of black women in Britain supported the English Football team during this year's tournament 🇯🇲 Half of the black women surveyed threw their support behind the feel good upstart Jamaican National team With Black women buying into Issa Rae’s mantra of “rooting for everybody black”, it poses a question about how to market the game, as well as the activity surrounding it. Engaging all womanhood in the UK going forward will mean balancing messaging that leans on National Pride with embracing and celebrating non-English/British teams. This is yet another example of the decline of monoculture and highlights the increasing need for authentic representation. 📣 Calling all elite female athletes ⚽️🏑 Zahra K. is working with the Women's Sport Trust to conduct a survey on 'Female Athlete Activism'. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and the findings will be used to help the Women's Sport Trust better support female athletes to make positive change. I know many athletes in my network know the pressure and struggles of trying to make positve change in sport and beyond.
