Sales in recruitment is a numbers gameโฆ โฆ but they are very different numbers now. I am totally buzzing this morning after such an amazing day yesterday with a large recruitment business in London, remapping, rewriting and rebuilding a fit-for-purpose business development strategy. This is going to be an absolute game changer!! There is no doubt in my mind that sales is very different today than it was a few years ago. How customers want be sold to. What channels works best. How best to get recruiters engaged in doing it. How to use tech to enhance the human side of it. How marketing sits in with all this. What good actually looks like. You absolutely need to open your eyes to this and evolve or I am convinced you will get left behind. We are seeing it already with some recruitment businesses that just arenโt getting the same ROI any more, the same buy-in (internally and external) from their traditional sales activity. Donโt be afraid to deep dive what youโre doing and fix it - the best time to adapt your sales strategy was yesterday, but if you missed that deadline, then today is a pretty good alternative! #recruitment #sales

The coolest thing about being a headhunter for other agency recruitment professionals is to see what a crazy cool life recruitment as a career has enabled them to achieve. Many have gotten into all types of investing which has helped them continue to build wealth at an early age. Because this job is relatively flexible, it's been great to see so many top performers build families while continue to make incredible money. Some have even moved countries and are still able to maintain their income level due to the fact that we only really need a phone, email, some basic platform subscriptions, a crm, and wifi to function. Some work fully remote, some love working in the city of their dreams with likeminded colleagues, and some want a mix - all exist in our world. It is hugely inspiring to see what this career can do for people who are dedicated to building their skills to be great at this relatively straightforward task of placing people at companies. This is why people who stick with it and persevere always end up winning. They finally create the lifestyle they want. And if their firm doesn't offer them the flexibility, pay structure, or setup they want? They'll either leave to join another firm (in which case, hit me up), or they'll just start their own. I met an excellent Sales candidate this week with a consulting background who was told by a recruiter she should go down a level if she wanted to get into SaaS. In my opinion (having worked in both areas) selling consulting or prof services is much more complex than most SaaS products. A SaaS sales team would be lucky to have someone with this background, someone able to engage people at such a C-level (CHRO etc.), in a lengthy (multiple-stakeholder) process with large deal sizes (on average ยฃ.5 million). STOP PUSHING WOMEN AND OTHER UNDER-REPRESENTED PEOPLE INTO LOWER-LEVEL ROLES TO GET COMMISSION. Sorry, I really had to shout that one. If he had actually gotten to know her, he might also know that she was responsible for bringing in the biggest deal at her company at the time (worth ยฃ15 million). On a side note: she's interested in moving sector (something like Beauty/FMCG/Luxury/Tech) and is just back from a year of travel so refreshed and looking for the next adventure in London. (Sales Leaders if you're hiring get in touch). We, Recruiters, have a duty of care to candidates, to support them in what is otherwise a very challenging job search. This means empowering them and NOT knocking their confidence (in what is usually a very vulnerable time, especially in a layoff scenario), coaching them on salary negotiation, giving them constructive feedback about their CV, and giving them advice on how they can perform better in an interview. Your words will really matter to them, I guarantee that. I knew inside 15 mins of meeting her that she was the person for the job. A journey of growth... โก๏ธ ยฃ5M to ยฃ20M revenue in three years, then 20M to 60M in two years. I just remembered that it was in this office that I'm in today in the City of London that I first met a Sales Director candidate, who one of our clients hired through me. I knew inside 15 mins of meeting her that she was the person for the job. โก๏ธ She grew the company from 5M to 20m revenue. โก๏ธ Enabling the investor to realise their plan. โก๏ธ The investor exited, and so did she. The company, then came back to me, seeking to hire a Global Head of Sales... I found them, a great hire. โก๏ธ Once again, I knew inside 15 mins of meeting this candidate that he was the person for the job. โก๏ธ That was two years ago. โก๏ธ He's now taken, the company from 20M to 60m revenue. Of course the challenge is today and tomorrow. To achieve repeated success. I have my own little expression, I hope you'll like it: ๐ฏ Headhunting done properly is about recruiting the right people into the right jobs for the right reasons. For us, we're employer biased.
