Why has meaningful DEI change been so slow in corporate America? One reason is that many diversity trainings are passive. Lasting change takes more than just clicking through slides or signing a pledge. It starts with trust. Trust is essential for high-performing teams, yet often challenging to build in diverse environments. This article from Chief Executive Group explores actions that can help develop trust and create a thriving DEI environment: https://bit.ly/3VMwzn1. #DEI #DiversityEquityInclusion #Leadership #Diversity

"Diversity is, necessarily, a team effort." We need to correct business leaders who diminish, debase or delegate DEI, distancing themselves as if it’s 'someone else's job.' To be clear, we actually need to invite and inspire our teams to get involved in the cause. What will it take to make this happen? In reality, every single one of us has a role to play in advancing workplace inclusion. I particularly love one suggestion this article offers up, explaining how to begin nurturing a culture of collective DEI responsibility. In fact, I’ve actually instituted this practice in several executive roles. Hold regular check-ins with each and every one of your team members. When a leader takes time out of their schedule to personally connect with every team member, they're demonstrating a critical idea in action: there’s value in every voice. Every single one of us deserves to have our questions and needs addressed in work environments. In these check-ins, learn about each person's strengths, how they like to receive feedback, their approach to work, etc. These questions form the bedrock of inclusion and equity at work. Believing that every person's needs are worth our attention is a foundation tenet of DEI leadership. Now, our biggest challenge lies in helping our teams collectively understand the value of individual respect. How will you make it happen? #DEI #Leadership #Inclusion #Diversity

"You might think of diversity as the “what” of DEI. It ensures workplaces have a diverse mix of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to draw upon as they seek to understand and serve an increasingly diverse marketplace. Inclusivity is the “how” of DEI. It includes diversity in decision-making and other key processes in the business environment and ensures diversity is translated into better business outcomes. Once business leaders understand the nuances of diversity and inclusivity, they can begin to take the steps necessary to cultivate more inclusive environments." A thought-provoking read: "Obtaining any lasting benefit from diversity requires not just the presence of a diverse workforce but also effective leadership that can manage conflict, create cultures of inclusiveness characterized by psychological safety and growth mindsets, and make organizational change where needed to support a diverse workforce. In other words, the business case for diversity only appears after hard work to transform its many costs into benefits, hard work that few companies are actually willing to do."

This is a very insightful article that was shared as part of Wade Trim's monthly Diversity Equity and Inclusion #dei Employee Resource Group by coordinator Mia Mariotti. I especially connected with these tips for senior leaders to create a culture of belonging by doing the following: * Embodying the organization’s values. * Modeling inclusive leadership by listening to all voices on their team. * Expressing transparency about their values. * Seeking to connect with employees across the organization. * Sharing personal stories. https://lnkd.in/gwgE9eYJ
