Exploring Chile’s Ancestral Vineyards with Max Morales 'Chile, the land of rich viticultural heritage, is seeing a resurgence in its ancient vineyards, spearheaded by Andes Wines and its innovative Ancestral Vineyards Wine Tours. This concept is set to revolutionise the wine networking and business platform of Andes Wines, drawing from the extensive 23-year research journey of CEO Maximiliano Morales. Covering over 4,000 kilometres from Arica Parinacota to Patagonia, Morales has meticulously mapped the country’s oldest vineyards, originally brought across by European settlers. 'At the forefront of this initiative is the ‘Climate Change Wine Tour’ which positions Chile as a global leader boasting the most extensive ungrafted, phylloxera-free vineyards. These tours invite enthusiasts to explore terroirs showcasing ancient vines, including Cabernet Sauvignon vines aged 40 to 140 years in Maule, Bio Bio and Maipo, together with Carmenere planted in 1945 in the O’Higgins region and Alto Jahuel in the Maipo Valley.' Vendimia: A journey from Earth to Glass 💚🤍💚 In the heart of Andalucia, a timeless spectacle unfolds each year - the vibrant celebration of the vendimia, the grape harvest. This cherished tradition is a vivid reflection of the region's rich history, deep-rooted culture, and a fascinating winemaking process. As clusters of ripe grapes adorn the vineyards, locals gather with a palpable sense of excitement. One captivating element of this age-old practice is the stomping of grapes with feet - a practice passed down through generations. While modern methods have brought efficiency to winemaking, this age-old technique endures for its symbolic value and distinct contributions to the process 🍇 Why use feet? Beyond its romantic allure, foot stomping offers a gentle, natural way to extract juice from the grapes, preserving their essential flavors and characteristics. The rhythmic dance of feet not only releases the precious liquid but also connects participants with the land and the fruit it bears. It's a visceral reminder that wine is not just a beverage; it's a labor of love, a journey from earth to glass 🍷 As the sun sets and the air fills with the aroma of grapes, laughter, and camaraderie, the vendimia becomes a time to honor heritage, relish in unity, and toast to the promise of exceptional wines. It's a tapestry where tradition, community, and craftsmanship entwine, leaving an indelible mark on the culture of Andalucia 🇪🇸 #villasfincas #traditions #andalucia

One of my favorite activity here in US is to talk about Moldova and the wine discussion has a special place. Beside the fact that we have the best red wine in the world here are few more facts: 🫶 Milestii Mici in Moldova holds the world's largest wine cellar, recognized by Guinness World Records in 2005, with 2 million bottles. 🎙️Moldova ranks 20th globally in wine production, offering a wide variety of wines. 🍇Moldova's climate and fertile soil make it ideal for vine-growing, similar to Tuscany or Piedmont. 🙌Moldova boasts the world's highest vineyard density, with 128,000 hectares of vitis vinifera. 📖Winemaking tradition in Moldova dates back to 5000 BCE, and it continued through trade with Greeks and Romans. 👉Moldovan wines are now exported to over 75 countries on three continents. 🇲🇩Moldova adapted its wine production to international tastes after a Russian ban in 2006, focusing on drier wines. 🥗Moldova's wine routes offer a unique way to explore the country's culture, cuisine, and landscapes More here:

WHERE DOES THE VINEYARD STAND? For some years, wine tourism has expanded from the tasting room to the vineyard: age, density of vines, grape varieties. Over the years, the agricultural dimension has become increasingly distant from the consumer, and wine tourism is one of the keys to returning to the farming world, at least for a few hours, in safety and tranquillity. 🌳 From the point of view of the hiker, the vineyard is an intermediate point: it belongs to the winery and is private property, but at the same time, it belongs to the world of open air, 🌞 light, rain, and grass underfoot, without which it could not exist. #TheWineWalk is the ideal continuation of the vineyard towards the outside world rather than in the winery's direction. It is for those who want to read the route in the correct sequence: starting from an ideal point and through a path between past and present, arriving together at the winery—on foot, at a relaxed pace, without stress. The route is designed in advance, but the guests are an important and unpredictable part. You never know beforehand whether the most exciting part of the itinerary is an abandoned church, a century-old plant, or a bougainvillea blossom. 🌺 And that is when you get to the vineyard: to the ripening fruit assisted by man before disappearing into the cellar between barrels of different materials and nature. From there to the tasting, the step is short. 🍷 Cheers! #tourism #foodandwinetourism #hiking #winetours #wineexperience #pdowines #winelovers

VOLCANIC WINES There is now a noticeable trend to enjoy light wines, that are delicate, flavourful, exuding purity. Their naturally light character is increasingly sought after to align with a dining scene that has been moving in this direction for some time. Consumers prefer wines that are light elegant and fresh. These characteristics are closely linked to lands where nothing is stable, as recent earthquakes, and where everything changes continuously due to the volcanic activity beneath. Volcanic dusty, powdery soils, rich in ash and other eruptive materials, strongly characterize the wines, as does the choice to use two grape varieties in southern Italy. Falanghina for the whites and piedirosso for the reds. In this area, falanghina expresses itself magnificently, acquiring mineral notes, as well as depth and the ability to evolve. Piedirosso, naturally light-bodied, enhances this characteristic here, becoming a red wine of great elegance. Wealthy Romans invested significantly, founding the city of Baia, known for its luxurious villas, elite leisure, and thermal baths, while Miseno hosted Augustus's great fleet, who chose these mythical lands to distance himself from the increasingly treacherous Rome. Romans also made significant investments in viticulture around Naples, a legacy that continues among modern winemakers. Although the size of vineyards and wineries are smaller now, the quality and terroir expression of the wines have increased. The soil, as fine as powder, tends to erode or dissolve under rain and wind. The Etna in Sicily is famous for its light and evanescent red wines that are now becoming more and more sought after. They are light, fragrant, easy to enjoy and digest. The wines of Etna ae available in all specialized wine stores everywhere in North America, and the L C B O’s Vintages division futures some volcanic wines from Sicily frequently.

In the 18th century, the Marquis of Pombal introduced a pioneering vineyard classification system based on wine quality, influencing land value and ensuring the Porto wine’s reputation for excellence. The 19th and 20th centuries were periods of great challenges but also modernization. The phylloxera plague devastated vineyards across Europe, and the Douro was no exception. The response included restructuring vineyards with resistant rootstocks, safeguarding viticulture continuity. Simultaneously, technological innovations in winemaking and vineyard management contributed to raising the Douro wines’ quality standards. The Alto Douro Wine Region’s classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001 acknowledged the region’s exceptional universal value. This status celebrates the extraordinary cultural landscape shaped by human activity and highlights the importance of preserving the winemaking heritage. Since then, international interest in the region has grown, with a significant increase in tourism and investment in wineries.
