At Meridian Springs Primary Care, we emphasize the importance of daily skincare routines to maintain healthy and radiant skin. One crucial aspect of this routine is the consistent application of sunscreen. By using sunscreen, you protect your skin from harmful UV rays, which can cause sunburn, premature aging, and increase the risk of skin cancer. We recommend choosing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and applying it generously to all exposed skin, even on cloudy days. Don't forget to reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating. Sun - Come outside, it's a beautiful day! The Importance of Sunscreen in Preventing Skin Damage As the sun's rays bathe our skin in warmth and light, it's easy to forget the hidden danger they can pose. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is one of the primary causes of skin damage, leading to sunburn, premature aging, and even skin cancer. While enjoying the outdoors is essential for our overall well-being, it's crucial to prioritize sun protection to safeguard our skin's health. One of the most effective ways to shield our skin from the harmful effects of UV rays is by incorporating sunscreen into our daily skincare routine. #skincare #health #healthcare #fitness #wellness #naturalskincare https://lnkd.in/dFFw66yV

Did you know that even on cloudy days, UV rays can still penetrate your skin? UV rays, also known as ultraviolet rays, are a type of radiation emitted by the sun, and prolonged exposure without protection can increase your risk of sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer. But don't worry, there's an easy solution – Sunscreen! Please ensure you choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect against both UVA and UVB rays, which can damage your skin's outer and inner layers. Before sun exposure, apply sunscreen generously and evenly to all exposed areas of your skin, including frequently neglected spots like your ears, neck, and the back of your hands, at least 15-30 minutes beforehand. And remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after swimming or excessive sweating, as even water-resistant formulas can wear off. As a health and wellness advocate, I encourage you to prioritize your skin health, protect it from harmful UV rays, and enjoy the sun safely. You hear so much about your skin's moisture barrier...but what is it, really? 🤔 Simply put, it’s the outermost layer of skin called the stratum corneum. It’s our body’s first defense against all kinds of infections and diseases, and it also regulates water loss to keep our skin hydrated. It’s important to keep our skin hydrated inside and out. There are a few ways you can support your moisture barrier, including: 🍴 Regulating and optimizing protein and lipid (fat) intake 💧 Drinking water with electrolytes 💦 Misting your skin with water throughout the day Additionally, emollient and humectant moisturizers are best for daily use, rejuvenating your skin from the base level. Emollients are highly nourishing and create a barrier over the skin that mimics the natural moisture barrier, while humectants attract water from the surrounding environment. It’s typically best to use a combination of these two types of moisture to get the full benefits of both. When you don’t protect the moisture barrier, it can become flaky, dry, itchy and irritated. This makes the skin more prone to signs of aging and injury. No matter the products, facial treatments, or pollutants in our environment, we must always make sure our skin is healing correctly and our moisture barrier is being re-built to turnover healthy skin cells. #BradleyBeauty #ScienceBasedCare #DermScience #NaturalWellness

Why is broad-spectrum protection important?? And how does this formula help prevent signs of premature aging? SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. This is a measure of how well sunscreen protects against UVB rays. A broad-spectrum sunscreen protects you from both types of UV light: UVA and UVB. UVB rays are the stronger of the two and can cause sunburns and most skin cancers. UVA rays play a smaller role in sunburn than UVB rays do – but that doesn’t mean they aren’t dangerous. UVA rays are sneakier and are typically responsible for premature aging, but they may also contribute to some skin cancers. Sun exposure is a primary reason for early or premature aging. Photoaging is mostly caused by UVA radiation, which robs the skin of its natural ability to hold its shape and also causes freckles and so-called liver spots. (What do you know them as? Sun spots? Age spots? Liver spots?) For effective sun protection, a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and water-resistance properties is ideal. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐠𝐞. 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐞? Skin 𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 is caused by changes in our skin cells and the bacteria colonizing our skin. 🦠 These changes can lead to epidermal thinning, reduced elasticity, reduced sebum production and increased dryness. 📈 On the other hand, skin 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 in particular is defined by preserving critical functions such as barrier protection against radiation damage, infection, water loss. ☀️ Aging significantly increases the loss of water from the skin, known as transepidermal water loss (TEWL); the skin's natural evaporation of water. If there is more TEWL, our skin will be dryer, and flakier which makes fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable. 💧 Do you want to learn more about skin aging and what can be done to maintain optimal skin health span as long as possible?
