With all due respect to these nurse researchers and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada - please acknowledge that Nursing leadership would better serve regulated nurses by researching how the workloads in all regulated nursing fields are hurting HC systems, HC consumers and regulated nurses. Compensation gaps, which are effectively unjustified, are tolerated and promoted by regulated nurses’ unions, syndicates and HC human resources/government ministries across Canada; it is important to note that unions and syndicates are generally ‘satisfied’ with monetary compensation for their members. The driver for dissatisfaction is the ‘HC environment, globally’. Please explain, how and why you believe your research will be a basis to motivate governments, unions, syndicates and institutional leaders, to negotiate ‘fair’ wages and other financial compensation for regulated nurses. Please explain why you are apparently not concerned with the ‘increased workload’ phenomenon that continues to increase without respite, putting regulated nurses and patients at increased risks of physical and mental harm as presented in various reliable Canadian studies re workers compensation for sick leave, incidents and accidents reporting, etc since Covid-19.
Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of New Brunswick | Healthcare Workforce | Qualitative Research Methods
Myself and Dr. Pamela Durepos are investigating nursing workload equity and how it has changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are currently recruiting research participants (RNs and LPNs) to share their experiences with nursing workload. Please feel free to share with anyone who may be interested in participating!
