Children perform better in school when their families are interested in their education. Children perform better in school when they have good attendance. Children perform better in school when their caregivers talk to their teachers and advocate for their needs. Children perform better in school when their caregivers read with them at home. And yet, such involvement is often a challenge for parents and caregivers who are juggling multiple jobs and navigating language and cultural barriers. So, here's to the donors committed to helping schools and families overcome those barriers, which is critical to the pandemic learning-loss puzzle. #Education #Literacy #StudentSuccess #FamilyEngagement

As we start a new year, many of us often focus on what matters most in the months ahead. And for parents, our children and their success in life is paramount. If you have a child who is struggling in school and may need additional social, emotional, or academic support, we may be able to help. We offer free, educational liaisons, all of them former educators. They collaborate with schools to help improve children's educational outcomes. Some of the vulnerable children we serve are also facing life challenges or traumas that impact their school work. We want to help them succeed. At Educare, we’re in pursuit of a future where every child, family and community can thrive! Read about how our Network of high-quality early programs is helping to nurture children, what pro-child policies look like, and more in this NYT article by Nick Kristof: https://lnkd.in/gdqHsvYe
Friday morning clarion call made by Nicholas Kristoff in the #newyorktimes today: "We Americans Neglect Our Children." https://lnkd.in/gymniKjM If you have a child in your life, or know someone who does, or you're an American who cares about our country (pick one -- any one -- of these categories), this is for you: "Individually, we adore and pamper our children. We shuttle them from soccer practice to music lessons and then organize their play dates with meticulous fanaticism. Yet collectively, we mistreat America’s children, especially by the standards of other wealthy countries... Children are more likely to go hungry or live in poverty in America than in most of our peer countries..." He goes on to share concrete solutions, one of them being Educare Schools https://lnkd.in/gz9s5cBP. We can, we must get this right. Parents, stand up. Citizens, stand up. "The best metric for a society’s future is how well it nurtures its next generation. So this election year, let’s look beyond the political horse race and culture war to grill candidates on their policies toward children — and thus our country’s future." #StartEarly #familiesfirst #nextgeneration #birthtofive #earlychildhood #earlychildhooddevelopment

From Apathy to Action: Advocating for Schools Let's be honest, feeling passionate about education policy isn't always easy. Between daily demands and endless news cycles, advocating for teachers and school staff can fall victim to apathy. But here's the thing: their work is too important to stay silent. Every day, educators wear countless hats: teachers, mentors, counselors, cheerleaders, and sometimes, even superheroes. They face immense challenges underfunding, burnout, and ever-changing demands, yet their dedication to our children remains unwavering. If we could mobilize our educators, we could also ensure a child centered policy approach. So, how do we overcome apathy and translate it into meaningful action? Here are a few tips that helped me turn "should do" into "doing": 1. Find your spark. What about the education system ignites your passion? Is it teacher autonomy, vouchers, special education, funding, equitable access, or mental health support for students? Focusing on a specific issue can make advocacy feel less overwhelming. 2. Connect with others. Join online groups or local organizations advocating for education. The power of collective action is undeniable, and the support of like-minded individuals can keep you motivated. 3. Remember the impact. Every change, every improvement in our schools, starts with someone raising their voice. By advocating, you're not just helping educators, you're investing in the future of our children and society as a whole. The fight for quality education is ongoing, and our collective voice matters. Let's turn apathy into action and ensure our schools are truly equipped to nurture and empower the next generation. In Texas, use the following link to find out who represents you https://lnkd.in/g-zrZ8cY #education #teachers # advocacy #mentalhealth #schoolfunding #community Feel free to share this post to raise awareness and encourage others to take action! Remember, even small steps can make a big difference.

Quality and accessible early childhood education is a game changer. That is why I support a full-day STEP program in Loudoun.
Another great meeting of the Loudoun Literacy Roundtable! This group committed to improving children’s literacy knows that accessible and quality early childhood education changes lives. That is why we support the proposal for a full-day pre-kindergarten program for Loudoun's at-risk children who do not qualify for Head Start. The current half-day STEP program is not a practical early childhood education solution for working parents. The Starting Towards Excellence Preschool or STEP program is for 4-year-old children whose families make up to 200% of the Federal Poverty level, who are homeless, who have parents who dropped out of high school, or who are eligible for special education services. Please join us in support of a full-day STEP program. #EarlyChildhoodEducation #Literacy #Preschool #LCPS #STEP #Headstart

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. - Nelson Mandela And this foundation is laid with early childhood education. Investing in early childhood education is super important, not only for governments but for the society and the whole world. As early years educators, we should stand up for children's right to education. Every child has the complete right to receive Early Childhood Education. Together, let's create a positive impact in the world of every child today. Let's collaborate to champion this cause hand in hand. 🤝 What we envision, we have the power to achieve. #earlyintervention #earlychildhoodeducation #sdg4 #childrensrights #childadvocacy #children #childprotection #childhoodeducation

Research underscores the significant influence of family backgrounds on a child's path to success. Kids raised by educated and actively involved parents often exhibit greater curiosity, alertness, and confidence. These young individuals are well-prepared by their families to present their best selves to the world. This reflection raises an important question: what is it that our children truly need to thrive in life? Beyond quality education in schools, it becomes evident that a supportive community plays a crucial role in shaping their future. Let's work together to provide our children with the well-rounded foundation they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world. #Success #Education #Parenting #CommunitySupport

Excerpts from “Indoctrinating Our Children to Death: Government Schools’ War on Faith, Family & Freedom – And How to Stop It.” (2024), by Alex Newman, CEO of Liberty Sentinel Media and Executive Director of the non-profit Public School Exit “Bullying, controversial curriculum choices, and special learning needs are just a few of the reasons more and more people worldwide are turning to home education” (Attorney Mike Donnelly as cited on p. 105) “Despite Plato’s ramblings, though, the idea of a government-mandated, government-provided education didn’t catch on until thousands of years later” (p. 106) “Instead, throughout virtually the whole world, parents, religious institutions, and sometime local communities were the primary educators of children—with parents retaining ultimate control” (p. 106) “By the 1960s and 1970s, following Supreme Court rulings purporting to ban the Bible and prayer from schools, more and more parents were looking for an escape route…giving birth to the modern homeschooling movement” (p. 107) “Perhaps the most important single player in this was Dr. Raymond Moore…who discovered that government schools were harming children—especially young children” (p. 107) This book can be purchased at https://lnkd.in/gA3VvRje
