This is where Galveston Bay meets the Gulf of Mexico. Those ships at anchor are waiting for a pilot to navigate their 800 ft ship up the bay, which averages 11 ft in depth (the ships draught is typically 25-35 ft). There is a 500 ft wide channel carved into the Bay called the Houston Ship Channel which is 40 miles long and about 50 ft deep...almost 30 miles to within eyesight of downtown Houston. A reminder that hiring an expert in a given field can be the economical choice in growing a business.

"You have until October 31st to make it happen before the lawyers get involved." No pressure 😳 Professional peaks are memorable, but it's the valleys where the real magic happens. April 2009 - Our stone company's lease of quarry land in southern Indiana is expiring on the aforementioned date. Our task? Get rid of all of our equipment on the land and build a road from the top of the quarry to the valley below. ⚠️ Zero - The amount of experience we had selling heavy machinery or building roads. Also the budget we had to spend making this happen. You know the saying failure isn't an option? This was it. Get it done or be sued into oblivion. That 7 month stretch was merely a chapter in my story. Did we pull it off? Your damn right we did. But it's not the success I think about, it's the countless hurdles and do or die approach we took. If you’re chasing a professional goal and it seems miles away, pause. Breathe. Gather your wits and focus. And know that when you finally get there, you'll view it from a different vantage point than you thought. One where you see what you're made of. And if we find ourselves sharing a frosty beverage together, ask me about the quarry and prepare for stories of dynamite, wasps and tunnels to hidden treasure 😜

Now that is how training workshops should look at colleges
Well we have been to Burnley College today and what a fantastic place this is ! When you enter any companies building and you are greeted by the front of house team this always gives you a feeling of the values of the company and WOW Lisa what a meet and greet we got your students and visitors must be inspired! Thanks to David Lord and his team for the tour and as always I wanted to see the Welding facility which was great ! But Burnley are Premiership when it comes to the low carbon net zero facilities and the Construction facilities and the Plumbing and heating facilities are brilliantly but the one aspect that hit me was they are a TEAM and they all muck in to get the job done and the passion was fantastic! The Students have not started but it’s hard for a BORO fan to say But Burnley College is Premiership! Thanks to my good friend Neil Burrows for arranging the visit for Victoria Shaw and Mark O'Beirne AWeldI and myself and we will be back to see it in term time

Today is Juneteenth. On this day in 1865, the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom. As we commemorate this important day in history, let us reflect on the progress made while recognizing the work that still lies ahead. At Worthington Steel, Our Philosophy guides us to create an inclusive environment for our employees while influencing changes in the communities where we live and work. Let’s keep moving forward together. #Juneteenth #DrivingSteelForward

Very interesting to see it from this perspective.
It’s a Boring Job…and Mary gets to do it! Since April, Mary Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), has been hard at work, doing what she does best: boring/mining her way through the Hampton Roads Channel to build the first of the new twin tunnels at the HRBT. We're excited to share that she's already mined a little over 700ft and placed 101 tunnel rings (only 1,093 more rings to go for the 1st tunnel!). Day in and day out, Mary navigates through layers of sand, soil and clay, transforming the landscape of the channel bed, one ring at a time. This is just the beginning of a year long journey from the South Island (Norfolk side) to the North Island (Hampton side). Stay tuned to updates on Mary’s progress. We look forward to sharing the boring details!

Catch this article by Cohen Milstein partner, Betsy Miller, on what critical skills are needed for successful rainmaking in a Plaintiffs’ firm. For her article, she interviewed ZR partner June Pineda Hoidal on her approach and philosophies that help drive new business and clients. According to June, becoming a successful rainmaker at a plaintiff's firm requires: - A mix of art and science. Learning how to pick the best cases and how to build them. - Collaboration. Because doing great work is not enough. You must also be great to work with. - Mentoring. Involving associates in case selection from the start to help build the next generation of rainmakers.
