What do you think? I still strongly believe in HIEs.
I think they have the potential to integrate and serve up data and utility for stakeholders across the entire healthcare ecosystem.
When there is buy-in and cross-stakeholder support, they could produce insights and tools well-beyond what any one organization could alone, especially given the integration of various disparate sources.
I’ve been trying to help beat this drum since atleast 2017, and have so much appreciation for others who have been championing this much longer.
There have been challenges, barriers, and setbacks, don’t get me wrong.
But I’m so happy that today I can confidently say… momentum is palpable, and grows each day here in NM thanks to the very hard work of local state leaders like Terri Stewart, Elisa Wrede, Roberto Martinez (and countless more), plus national groups like Civitas Networks for Health.
And yesterday I had the pleasure of presenting what SYNCRONYS, NM’s state-designated HIE, is working on specifically in the SDOH/Health Equity space, as the volunteer Chair of their SDOH Advisory Workgroup.
We also discussed examples of what other states’ HIEs are doing to lead the way in the space.
It still requires collaboration, communication, and constantly bringing together multiple disparate stakeholders to work towards a common goal and ideate solutions together. HIEs can and should be an integral voice in these conversations as a public-private partnership.
This is my 6th year attending the annual conference, and every year I see more and more faces representing more and more key organizations across our state.
I’m honestly so excited to see how much progress has been made in our state on this front. Let’s keep it going!!!
If anyone wants to talk shop and bat ideas around on any of this, don’t hesitate to drop me a note. I love this stuff.
Thank you so much for having me 🥂
