Helen Jones, non-executive director at Fuller’s, talks to Ann Elliott about her journey to joining the board. Quick quotes: "Non Exec are a different role than an executive director, you are more 'hands off.'.. look for one while you are still in work but there is a time commitment... networking is very important in getting the right position... you do need to learn to stand back, support, guide and challenge... understand your remit. Cheers and challenge in equal measure, you need to participate but know the boundaries." 👉 Read the programme for Propel's Multi Club conference – Female Leaders and Entrepreneurs, here: https://lnkd.in/er7sJ342

Dream Big! If there were no limits, what board would you serve on? We know women don’t apply for positions unless they know they meet 100% of the qualifications. How many boards are we turning away before we even see a position because we don’t think we are qualified? It is time to leave that type of thinking behind! Join our 6-week Corporate Board Readiness cohort starting April 12th to meet the board directors, experts, and senior executive women who will help you get that board seat. Board directors like Britt Ide, Millicent Tracey, Sue Harnett, Shelly Lombard, and Catherine Calarco will teach you how to target those dream boards and you’ll identify your path to board seats. Take the plunge and get that dream board. https://lnkd.in/gV6kTzHC

I am always honored when asked to participate and or speak in DC. I am very patriotic and love been a citizen of the United States and take my citizenship as a responsibility and as a privilege. I always feel unworthy and a little bit of the imposter syndrome. I just keep saying to myself, I may not be the best person but I keep showing up and thats galf the battle. I show up so my ethnic community has visibility, has a voice and has some advocacy in DC. I invite Pacific Islanders to join me in DC, we need more people involved. May 13 I will be on a panel that will address that the Biden-Harris Administration is redoubling its efforts to support Black, Latino, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Native Hawaiian, Native American, women, and veteran small business owners. From international matchmaking and business counseling, to direct funding for communities across the United States -- there is exciting work underway to help support new and existing AA & NH/PI entrepreneurs. For instance, in Fiscal Year 2023, the U.S. Small Business Administration delivered $52.4 billion in capital, disaster relief, and bonding to small businesses and disaster-impacted communities across America, with expanded funding for minority- and women-owned businesses. Over the past year, the U.S. Department of Commerce has expanded offices and staffing in the Indo-Pacific, which has already helped U.S. AA & NH/PI companies expand sales and build commercial partnerships. Three million businesses are owned by AA & NH/PIs employing five million people with annual revenues of more than $1 trillion. This panel will explore opportunities and challenges for AA & NH/PI small businesses, despite record levels of funding, support, and services. It was moved to Walter E. Washington Convention Center because VP Kamala Harris will be attending.

Ethan Hawke recently shared some valuable advice he got from Denzel Washington about winning awards. He said, "You don’t want an award to improve your status. You want to improve the award’s status." This is a powerful statement that challenges us to think about the true value of awards. It's not about personal recognition, but about elevating the award itself. What do you think about this perspective? Share your thoughts in the comments below. #EthanHawke #DenzelWashington #Awards #Perspective #Value #Success
