Yesterday's Women In Defense - Tampa Bay Chapter Luncheon was an absolute blast! We had the incredible opportunity to hear from Amy Nicole Strother, the Chief of Contracting Division at U.S. Special Operations Command Central. Her insightful discussion shed light on CENTCOM's current mission to swiftly deploy critical capabilities into the field. A huge thank you to Mrs. Strother for her inspiring leadership and to everyone who joined us for this enlightening and engaging event. DC is a unique place. 85% of the hundreds of women in the room at the annual Women In Defense conference today wore a uniform at one point-you don’t see that in Silicon Valley. Most industries say they value #veterans, but they really don’t understand their unique capabilities often stifling #talent. Today, we focused on peer competition ensuring our most asymmetric advantage, our people, can maximize contributions across the spectrum of crisis and conflict. #Women strengthen the defense industrial base and workforce by increasing #diversity of thought. If we are going to truly move the needle and improve outcomes, we must not have monolithic thinking. #CCSWG #WomenAreEssential #womenveterans #womenserving #NAWRB Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Council

Yesterday, I celebrated facilitating the kickoff of The Center for Women and Business at Bentley University’s DEI Certificate program by attending the Dinner Group and #TheWomensDinnerGroup annual mixer. The mixer served as the after party for the 4th Annual Men of Color Conference. I enjoyed hearing about the #MOC2023 event, connecting with familiar faces, and bonding with my amazing colleagues - Razan Haddad and Sean O. Ferguson, Ed.D. Thank you to the organizers and leaders of both groups for creating a space for diverse professionals to come together. Being in a room full of authentic leaders with shared identities was truly fuel for the soul. In this episode, we explore a powerful spoken word piece centered on the concept of hope. The poem begins by describing hope as the essential fuel that drives us towards our dreams and as the only remedy for the pervasive symptoms of negativity, uncertainty, and despair. It speaks to the courage required to maintain hope in a world saturated with engineered negativity, where misinformation is spoon-fed through media. The poet argues that amidst this onslaught of distorted facts, what we truly need is a "simple diet of the TRUTH" and a "daily dose of HOPE" to bolster our resilience and well-being. The second half of the poem highlights the historical and societal significance of hope, referencing various groups who have clung to hope in the face of tremendous adversity. It honors the descendants of slaves, immigrants, those fleeing religious persecution, and the LGBTQ+ community—all united by their unwavering hope for a better future. The poet emphasizes the importance of believing in change and actively working towards creating opportunities for greatness. They remind us that hope is an active force that empowers us to overcome obstacles and inspire others. The closing lines urge us to recognize that true greatness is not a distant ideal but a present reality, encouraging us to break free from the figurative walls of fear and manipulation and be inspired by the trailblazers who have redefined freedom and bravery through their steadfast hope. https://lnkd.in/e9ksNNG8
