How much less do working-class professionals have to earn compared to privileged professionals before someone does something about it? 😒 Professionals from upper middle-class backgrounds earn 16% more than professionals who are working class. S I X T E E N. P E R C E N T. ❗ ❗ ❗ & this pay-gap translates to around £6400 less per year 🤯 Can anyone tell me how getting paid £6400 LESS than your colleagues because of your class background makes ANY sense?! 😠 The class-pay gap is SO real, yet hardly anyone is talking about it! As someone who comes from a “double disadvantaged” background i.e. being a person of colour AND from a low socioeconomic background, I can tell you that class has the biggest impact on a person’s career outcomes. So much talent gets wasted because of inherent and perverse class-biases in hiring and progression systems. We've launched a significant employment programme to support career opportunities for young people and tackle youth unemployment across the UK. Young people face higher unemployment levels in the UK, with a youth unemployment rate of 11.4% compared to an unemployment rate of 4.0% for the whole population*. With our scale and reach, we have a significant opportunity to improve the representation of young people in our workforce. We've already started to lay the foundations to improve the attraction and retention of young people by: • Significantly increasing the number of employees under the age of 30 in frontline roles. • Transforming the recruitment process to make it more relevant and accessible for young people from all backgrounds • Recruiting early career talent. Over the last twelve months, we've recruited over 200 postal and graduate apprentices. This is creating new career routes for young people and providing investment to further their education whilst starting professional careers. We'll also be working with This is Purpose to launch a social mobility plan aimed at supporting talent from lower socio-economic groups, inside and outside the business. This will include supporting employability skills and creating further access to career opportunities through work experience and apprenticeship opportunities. Perhaps you went on a mandatory work placement (these aren’t always organised by schools nowadays) or maybe a friend or family member let you come and see their place of #work? These days, even understanding the titles of #jobs is difficult - Collections and recoveries credit services advisors take a bow – let alone knowing what function they perform. Seriously though, #employers are very vocal about young people not having the skills to do the job these days. So why not open your doors, even for just a day, you might find a diamond #employee! There are more people who can sit in an office than people who can build them. I found a 2022 report that stated only 35% of high school graduates consider trade school BUT a recent report stated that 90% of college grads wish they had gone to trade school instead of college and believed they would have been more financially secure.   The attitude of “college is greater than anything else” needs to be checked and is probably why only 15% of Veterans head to trade school post-service.   Consider this:   Learning a trade gives you the opportunity to get paid and gain industry experience all without incurring a lot of debt. It can also set you up for continuing education within your field and because you have the industry experience to back up your “new” education that makes you much more attractive to employers.   Tradespeople are building and keeping our Nation running and we are in a critical shortage of them!   Plenty of job opportunities are waiting for you in this market, with employers ready to invest in and train YOU!   Let’s shift the narrative and recognize that success isn’t solely defined by a college degree. Trade schools offer a practical, financially savvy path to a rewarding career. #skilledtrades #jobs #militarytransition

We were never ready, we were never sure, actually, we did not know. We came from disadvantaged households and life threatening environments but yet our dreams kept us going. Obviously, we were being judged through our upbringing. Yet, little did they know that our destiny was set. Today, we hold 5years experience in higher education, 4 years industry experience yet still below the age of 30. One may wonder how is this even possible. Well it all depends on you putting your best foot forward. Excel in everything you do, go for those good grades, go and volunteers, take those temporal roles, take those contract roles and be willing to prioritize experience over financial gain. The fact is that those low paying jobs lead to your desired career. As much as they may seem demanding but they do prepare you for the industry. Therefore, make it a habit to value every opportunity that comes your way because one day your desired role will require that experience. #noticeme #sharing
