In celebration of the forthcoming season of Bridgerton on Netflix, we are most elated to announce Spacejunk's recent alliance with the esteemed team at Bath & Body Works, heralding their limited edition Bridgerton collaboration with Netflix and Shondaland.
But seriously, our team was delighted to bring some VFX and animation magic to the project and we are excited to share the results! Thank you to the Bath and Body Works team for the opportunity and continued partnership. Now who's ready to light a candle and binge some Regency-era scandals?
The Walt Disney Company's Inside Out 2 releases today and the question is, can they recapture the crown in the animation battleground from Illumination?
Initial excitement for #InsideOut2 among kids isn't matching the fervor seen with Minions: The Rise of Gru, and early tracking for #DespicableMe4 suggests a similar trend. Similarly, teen interest and engagement from the 25+ demographic appear lighter than recent Illumination comps. There is however solid Intent across audiences to go to a cinema to see it.
Bad news for those hoping to wait for a Disney+ release - there is a 100-day theatrical window for this one, which will help bolster box office returns. That is, until #DespicableMe4 releases in a few weeks time.
So whilst we expect a strong opening weekend, it remains to be seen if it can hit Minions/Despicable Me numbers.

Pixar Animation Studios has once again electrified the box office, scoring a sensational $100 million in its second weekend of release, which represents only a 35% drop from the opening week.
🏆This resulted in the seventh-biggest sophomore outing in history and the best ever for an animated film. “Inside Out 2" added more in its second weekend than the 2015 opening week.
This is another remarkable example of the power The Walt Disney Company can unlock by combining marketing synergy across all its divisions at full force.
Current digital signals are also suggesting strong engagement during the Disney+ drop, which should result in an important window for Disney Experiences and its partners.

For me, this one kind of came out of nowhere. But after a little research, seems this is one of those projects that survived the proverbial ‘development hell.’
2003 - Original novel released.
Late 2000s - Cartoon Network tries to do as a live-action/CG hybrid. Never happened.
2019 - Paramount acquires rights to make animated feature, Carlos Baena (an animation veteran of ILM and Pixar, but someone who never directed a full big budget feature) attached to direct. Mikros Animation locked as the production studio.
2020 - Baena replaced with Raman Hui (Monster Hunt, Monster Hunt 2 live-action director, and long time animation director who worked on everything from Antz, to Shrek (1 & 2) to the original Puss in Boots.
2020-2023 (?) Film completes somewhere during these three years, but the theatrical release is cancelled due to COVID-19.
Jan. 16th, 2024 - 2 weeks before the Feb. 2nd release, Paramount drops the first trailer for a streaming release on Paramount+.
Having said that, I’m impressed by the superstar mostly-Asian cast (Henry Golding, Lucy Liu, Sandra Oh, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, and Elemental’s Leah Lewis to name a few).
But, there’s also a certain generic flavor to this that seems a result of older material that’s gone through too many sets of notes, revisions, and creative compromises with what-must-have-been a less-than-Pixar-or-Disney-level production budget.
As always, I want projects to succeed. But, the last minute trailer and lack of more extensive marketing does worry me a bit. And if I may offer my personal opinion, the whole ‘Let’s put the hero on the poster with headphones and a skateboard’ seems a little pandering.
Has anyone else heard about this one? Am I being too harsh? Thoughts?
