Many thanks to Payload and Crowell & Moring for hosting Space Capitol 2. Great opportunity for the emerging space sector to network and gain access to decision-makers and vice versa! Thoughtful discussions on overclassification, educating the public on the importance of space in their lives, and efforts to stand-up a Space Force National Guard (Appreciate the opportunity to speak with Payload co-founder Mo Islam) #space #spaceinnovation #spaceeconomy #spaceindustry #defenseinnovation #defensetechnology #defenseindustry United States Space Force National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Space Systems Command Space Operations Command United States Air Force United States Department of Defense National Security Space Association (NSSA) Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) National Security Innovation Capital NSIN - National Security Innovation Network Rios Partners

ISR is a critical component to warfighting in every domain. A holistic understanding of the threat is paramount. Knowing the physical properties of the space system is a good baseline; however, the more important component is understanding the cognitive dimension of the complete system (think decision makers managing the satellite constellation). The human component goes beyond “how” the space system operates. Adding the cognitive (inherently human) dimension into the equation gets to “why” the space system operates and “how” it is integrated into a larger kill chain. Answering both “how” and “why” gets to adversary intent, and that is what ISR units (like the 75th ISR Squadron) help derive. I assess this is the reason the space community pivoted from “space situational awareness” to “space domain awareness.” Knowing where satellites are in space is no longer good enough… “She explained that the 75th ISR Squadron is looking at not just how to take out enemy satellites on orbit, but also the other dimensions of space systems, including ground facilities and the command and control data links in between.” Great article Lt. #TechTuesday COBRA DANE Radar... The COBRA DANE radar is a single faced ground-based, L-band phased-array radar located in northern U.S. Indio-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) area of operations and operated by the U.S. Space Force. The primary mission of COBRA DANE is to collect radar metric and signature data on foreign ballistic missile events during exo-atmospheric and early endo-atmospheric portions of flight and on selected space launches in early orbit in support of treaty monitoring, force modernization, and missile defense. Additional missions include collecting space surveillance data on new foreign launches and both known (cataloged) and unknown (uncatalogued) satellites in low-earth orbit for the Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Operations Cell. #AirForce #USAF #Airman #SpaceForce #Guardian

As I mentioned at the @US Air Force Academy recent conference on Space Law, attacks from space are a growing concern. Brig. Gen. Anthony Mastalir, commander of US Space Force Indo-Pacific, discussed China's lunar exploration program at a conference Monday. "From a military perspective, I am curious about, are there attack vectors that we haven't considered or that we need to consider, whether it's xGeo or cislunar or otherwise?" Mastalir said, XGeo is Space Force jargon for all of outer space beyond geosynchronous orbit, a point some 22,000 miles above the Earth's surface. https://lnkd.in/eXeesPqp Meanwhile, the US has now tested hypersonic weapons for the 1st time in The Pacific, from Guam: https://lnkd.in/esjP2T5e #space #hypersonic #sattelites #spacerace

During prolonged tensions with the United States, North Korea claimed to have launched a spy satellite into orbit on its third attempt at launch this year, indicating the country's resolve to develop a space-based monitoring system. It was not possible to independently validate the North's assertion on Wednesday right away. Spectators question if the satellite is sufficiently sophisticated to do military reconnaissance. However, because North Korea is prohibited by the United Nations from launching satellites and views them as a cover for testing missile technologies, the launch nonetheless drew harsh criticism from the US and its allies. The Malligyong-1 satellite was successfully launched into orbit on Tuesday night, around 12 minutes after the North Korean space agency's new "Chollima-1" carrier rocket took off from the nation's primary launch pad. #iontrendz #unitedstates #northkorea #attempt #spy #military #launched #technologies #tuesday #rocket #staellite #forces #kimjongun #news #newsalert #newsupdate
