How are we halfway through 2024 already! Yesterday we held our SG mid-year meeting to review what we have achieved over the last six months. This included numerous awards, office upgrades, exciting projects, and formally welcoming some new members of the SG family. The whole team got involved, discussing fresh new ideas, and everyone came away with an action. Our resident office dog Toby had a seat of his own and was very much engaged with the discussions…and snacks! Southern Green look forward to the next six months of 2024, hopefully with a lot more exciting stories to share. #team #teambuilding #midyearmeeting #freshideas #businessplanning #landscapearchitect

In a world obsessed with 9 to 5s, have you ever stopped to question if that's really your rhythm? 🤔 Everyone has a natural working tempo. In our future professional culture, individual rhythms will matter more than the number of days we clock. After all, we're not cutting-edge because we work five days or seven. We're there because we understand how we work best. Flexible working and living are the way forward. Can the rhythm of an organization match the individual's rhythm? That's the real question—all while remembering our commitment to our team and employers. Whether it's achieved in two, three, or four days—however long it takes—the emphasis should be on output, not days and hours. It's not about four-day work weeks or five; it's about rhythm, output, and flexibility. As we envision a future where work adapts to life, not the other way around, it's clear that flexibility and understanding our own rhythms are at the heart of innovation. CEO/MD recognised for developing strategic enterprise value and shareholder return; driving growth, profit and performance; and for increasing cross-functional engagement cohesion and commitment.
Interesting article. Although I do not have an untouchable day, I took inspiration from something I read at the beginning of the year and scheduled a "no meeting day" once a week. The book's passage explained the power of setting a day in your diary where it was fully proactive work. There were no scheduled meetings, which would allow the leader to focus on welfare, strategy, market trends, impromptu employee discussions, etc. Earlier in the year in a discussion around 121s, someone said, "What if my manager hasn't enough time for a 121". The answer, the honest answer, is that everyone has time for everything they want to do. Our problem is setting priorities, scheduling and planning. If you tried to find some free time or schedule a 121 tomorrow, you might find it challenging as your diary and activities are set. But look 2, 3 or 4 weeks ahead, and I guarantee there is lots of time and space. Stop waiting for "free time". Schedule it!

The forced one-hour lunch break. One of the greatest progressive feats of a healthy 21st century workforce. Or ?? A barbaric ideal of old to get more HIO (Hours in Office) out of you? My HIO average is up 10000% since last year. That’s a pretty impressive number. Its as if youd’ve thought I didn’t spend a single day in the office last year. Seeing the office like this puts me in a league of my own. But the forced hour-long lunch break has continued to befuddle me. No matter how long of a break you give me I still won’t eat my lunch. Go for a walk, do a pushup, maybe hit the library for the free wifi. No, see: eating lunch is for admin work right at your desk. One of the only times you can get commercial-free action on tasks that need doing. Toss a plate of leftover Hamburger Helper on your desk and the cube is yours for however long it takes to eat. If someone even dares hit me with a sticky note, they’re gonna get the side-eye… And you don’t want the side eye... It’s feeding time. Keeps the company afloat. Builds shareholder value. Because when I leave for an hour, I have to stay for another hour. HIO ^^^ #business #returntooffice #office #shareholdervalue
