We’re growing fast and it’s time to accept our region urgently needs another major water source. We’ve gone from dam levels at 55% just two years ago, to full dams last year (thanks to the flood) and now new modelling shows residents could face water restrictions next year as dams levels drop again. The fact dam levels can rise and fall in such a short period of time clearly shows we don’t have the water security we need. This ridiculous game of Russian Roulette must end! I’m agnostic about whether it’s new or expanded dams, desalination or recycled water - we just need the Government to have a plan. If the State Government continues its approach of not doing a damn thing, our region will be left even more at risk of running dry.

Last night, we met with over 70 key local stakeholders in the St Austell Bay, Cornwall, to provide them with a briefing on the proposed desalination plant we are planning to build on industrialised land in Par 💧 We value our stakeholders and want to bring them on this journey with us.    Desalination is the process of taking water from the sea and treating it to a level that means it’s safe for human consumption 🌊 It is an effective, reliable and climate independent way to add additional capacity to our water network. This will be further enhanced with other projects to ensure a plentiful and robust supply of water for the future 💧    By 2025, we will have invested c.£125 million on drought resilience in Devon and Cornwall, increasing water resources available by c.45% in Cornwall and c.30% in Devon 💪 Find out more about our desalination plans here: https://lnkd.in/esBbMyPQ #Desalination #WaterIndustry #ClimateChange

Water utilities around the world are actively committed to ending sewage spills into the environment. 🍁Canadian Groundwater Week 💧 We often hear about groundwater in many areas of the world however traditionally Canada is not one where we hear as often about issues. Living in Canada, we think of ourselves as having 'lots of water' and, while that may be true the challenges with our water management and future planning still exist. This year I've seen news stories from many provinces talking about low groundwater levels due to low snow pack this winter across many regions. The question becomes - do we understand our groundwater in Canada and do we have a plan? This article is from the University of Saskatchewan from 2 years ago but I believe is still very relevant today. Sewer Treatment upgrades have become a focus of national attention in recent years, with discharge rates being a regular item in media headlines. Climate change is also influencing the country’s weather, with rainfall becoming increasingly unpredictable and intense. Due to these factors, there are many upgrades being commissioned for water treatment works in the UK. As the pressures on transboundary water resources increase, institutional capacity of RBOs proves critical to respond adequately and prevent water from becoming a source of tension and conflict.

In 2023 there were 464,056 recorded sewage spills, a 54% increase from the 301,091 spills in 2022. Sewage spills are only expected to increase as climate change brings increasingly torrential rains and worsens the problems caused by lack of investment, outdated infrastructure and insufficient capacity for new housing developments and population growth.
