This is a friendly reminder that you are [entitled, permitted, allowed] to feel the way you feel, have an opinion, etc. Yes, there will be those who may be in a worse off situation than you. But that does not invalidate you. Empathy and personal opinions/experiences can coexist. I saw a post where a recruiter at Uber was immersed in a vacation they desired to be on since the pandemic. A commenter reminded the recruiter that the commenter would rather be in the recruiter's shoes because of recent layoffs in the recruiting team. The commenter was also someone knows Uber's cultural values. "Great minds don't think alike." We can be empathetic. But do not invalidate an person's experience and joy. #uber #uberon #empathy

Reflecting on my journey from the early days at Uber, I've witnessed firsthand the evolution of company cultural values. Some have profoundly influenced me I never imagined that we would be coming up with our own values. I've often pondered: do we truly need values? do we need them now? Is this a one-person ideology? Yes, we do, and no, it's not. Company values are crucial; they provide a framework for decision-making, unite teams under a common mission, and cultivate a positive work culture. They also serve as a moral compass and reference in daily operations and at crossroads that require difficult decisions. More importantly, they define how we work together and can foster a positive work environment. I'm thrilled to unveil Partment's cultural values, V1. I'm excited to share some insights from my recent referral experiences for Uber! 🌟 Out of 200 applications I've reviewed, I've referred 30 talented individuals to potential opportunities. It's been a rewarding process connecting great candidates with exciting roles. Reflecting on this journey, I've identified common reasons why some applications weren't referred: 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐒𝐀 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞: Strong technical skills are essential. Candidates who needed more preparation in data structures and algorithms were often not referred. 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Applicants who had been declined within the last 180 days unfortunately couldn't be considered for referral. 𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐬: If a candidate was already referred by someone else, I couldn't submit an additional referral. Not Meeting Experience Criteria: Some applicants didn't meet the required years of experience for the role. 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: In certain cases, the role had already been filled or closed before I could make a referral. I'm committed to supporting talented individuals in their career journeys. 🎉 This month I celebrated a significant milestone: 5 years @Uber!!! 🚗 My Uber ride began in 2019 when I was pursued by the lovely Helen Kim to join the Uber for Business sales team in NYC. Less than a year in, the pandemic hit, disrupting our business and leading to widespread layoffs. Despite the uncertainty, this challenging time turned out to be a decisive moment for me. The surviving teams rose to the occasion, successfully pivoting to keep us moving forward. During this time, I transitioned to Operations without any prior experience and haven't looked back. This field has not only aligned better with my skill set but has also offered exceptional growth opportunities.
