Last week, we celebrated APCO's 40th anniversary in Washington, D.C., the city where it all started.   Wednesday was full activities, including a special Election Halftime Report event preceding our evening reception. «Ukraine never wanted this war. It's criminal and unprovoked aggression by Russia," said President Zelensky at a news conference with Swiss President Viola Amherd, the summit on peace in Ukraine host. U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris called the war "an utter failure for [Russian President Vladimir] Putin."Although Russia was not invited, just before the summit Putin demanded Ukraine withdraw from its own territory and abandon its goal of joining NATO. U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Putin believes he can outlast or divide Ukraine and its allies. However, the results of the G7 meeting, the Swiss summit, and security agreements Ukraine sighted in recent days "sharply rebuke both of those points” he said. The summit participants agreed that Ukraine needs a just peace based on international law and the UN charter and this gathering was the first step toward sustainable peace in Europe.
