Let’s talk about bias. 👐
I’m often asked by customers and journalists how Moonhub thinks about the role of AI in hiring, especially as it relates to bias. It's an important question, and one we're learning more about every day. At the core we know we need to be thoughtful in how we approach building AI, and we also are optimistic about the role AI will play in helping level the talent playing field.

𝑯𝒐𝒘? By helping recruiters and hiring managers be less biased, and opening the aperture for qualified talent.
Since we started Moonhub, we've come to find that while humans may have good intentions, inexperienced hiring managers and recruiters may often be a source for biased hiring practices. An example is a hiring manager looking for “top software engineers” who runs a search for people who have worked at Google, Meta, or Amazon. In doing so, they're leaving out 90%+ of the candidates who are just as great, if not better, for their opportunity. Most recruiters don't know how to look for the 90% because they aren't equipped with the tools to search effectively, and the technology to help make researching the criteria they could expand to easy.

We help companies identify candidates they otherwise may not have found or have been able to engage themselves. We do this by using our proprietary AI, which works with our expert human recruiters to propose more diverse and more expansive searches that zone in and expand to more relevant profiles. This ranges from better, more inclusive keywords to pushing back on biased search fields.
