#UnitedAirlines had a wheel dropping off today. I am not sure what kind of exceptional flying skills it takes to land such a plane but am sure it's time the high-nosed Aircraft Authorities like FAA and DGCA thought of mandatory "Air Mechanics" who can fly and attempt to fix such in-flight glitches. #Drones and #robotics can also be used to minimize risk to these "air mechanics". I wonder why they don't think of such basic essentials. All they do is ban #UAVs and everything else that can make lives better until someone goes and pleads with a cause which they initially reject but then emulate without giving credit to those who proposed that use cases in the first place. Outcome? the next ten use cases are not proposed. It's like some of my clients who like to discuss, grab ideas, cancel consultations assuming that the cat is out of the bag. Then come back when the cat is strangulated by a bunch of others. Ongoing relationship is important because what the initial thought entailed and it's long term execution and expansion is something that only the person proposing it would know.

ROLL STABILIZATION - The next piece in the puzzle to autonomous flight. D i s c l a i m e r : No airships were hurt in the making of this video. 😉 In principle an airship is a stable pendulum, so any roll disturbance will likely be attenuated without further ado. However, when steady shots are required for detailed inspections of infrastructure then an active attenuation of any undesired roll oscillation might save the day. Usually camera gimbals do a pretty good job at keeping the camera stable ... until the undesired movements of the aerial vehicle become bigger than what the gimbal can compensate for. This is why stabilizing a drone in all six degrees of freedom is a good point to start from. For multicopters that's standard but have you ever seen an airship do this?

U.S. authorities' new mandate requires carmakers to install automatic emergency braking systems (AEB) on new vehicles.
