By the stem, not the bowl. That's the correct way to hold a wine glass. Here's why: 1️⃣ If you hold your wine glass by its bowl, then you'll leave greasy smudges all over it and it won't look very appealing. 2️⃣ Holding the wine glass by the bowl for a longer period of time will also transfer the heat from your hands to the glass and warm up your wine. 3️⃣ In the case of delicate glasses, you stand a risk of breaking them by holding them by the bowl. Now there are multiple ways to hold a wine glass by its stem: You can use your thumb and index finger along with your middle finger to grab the stem. Or you can pinch the glass near the base with your thumb and index finger, and put your remaining fingers under the base for additional support. Never hold your wine glass by the bowl!❌ If you don’t hold your wine glass properly, it can ruin the whole wine-drinking experience, or worse, damage your precious glassware. The right way to hold a wine glass is by its stem or base. If you hold it from the bowl, you’ll leave smudges all over the glass. How unattractive! The bowl is also delicately built, so if you apply too much pressure while holding it, you might end up breaking the wine glass. Also, the heat from your palms will warm up your wine more quickly and soon, you’ll be sipping on fruit stew. Now, the reason why many people hold the wine glass by the bowl is because it seems super convenient. Here are some easy ways to properly hold your wine glass: 1️⃣ Pinch the lower part of the stem using your thumb and index finger, letting other fingers rest on top of the base.  2️⃣ Pinch the stem with your thumb and index finger right above the base and use your remaining fingers to provide support from below. 3️⃣ Pinch the base of your glass using your thumb, pointer and middle fingers. 🍾 A step-by-step guide to open your sparkling wine 🤫 🥂 Opening sparkling wine with precision is a key skill for professionals, and a good one for enthusiasts. Here are the essential steps on how to do it correctly: 1. Remove the capsule: start by carefully peeling away the capsule, the external covering over the cork and wire cage. 2. Wire cage (muselet): loosen the wire cage that secures the cork. If you prefer, you dont need to remove it completely, for better control. 3. Hold the cork firmly: this is crucial. Firmly grasp the cork to prevent it from flying off unexpectedly. 4. Rotate the bottle: gently rotate the bottle (not the cork!) with your other hand. Keeping your thumb over the cork helps control the release. 5. Enjoy your sparkling wine ✨🍾 It can even become a friendly contest to see who can pop the bottle with the least sound! One of our favorite moments as wine lovers is when we decant our wine after popping that cork… (check out my previous posts for some perfect techniques of bottle openings) But there is #decanter and … decanter. Obviously those of us who know the famous Riedel wine glasses understand glass quality can play a big role in opening wine, but that Riedel decanter is another level! Must be much fun. Besides wine I’m not too much of a collector guy, but #collecting all sorts of decanters is something I like because they can be very creative and you travel in history. One of them is a crystal decanter more than 200 years old from Napoleon times. In my opinion decanters are not just very useful for #wines, they’re also another way to wine ceremony and waken our senses, respecting the wine and bonding around the experience. This exposes the cork and the wire cage protecting it. 2️⃣ Twist the wire cage six times to loosen it, but keep it on the cork to maintain control.
