We all know the story of Pinocchio, the adventurous wooden puppet whose nose starts to grow whenever he fails to tell the truth. Pinocchio still appears in our culture a lot. For instance, the Washington Post’s fact-checkers rate the truthfulness of our nation’s politicians with Pinocchios—one, two, three, or four of them depending upon the honesty or lack thereof in their statements. It's hard to believe this is the last full week of the year. As things, hopefully, slow down, I hope you all have a chance to connect with friends and loved ones and get some time to recharge your batteries for a new year. But, before we get there we have one more week of Nice Guy and Gal awards. So, please take this chance to nominate a nice person in your life. This Friday, I’ll share nominations for people who have been identified as nice guys (and gals). And, I have so many people I want to recognize, I'm going to use the rest of the week to thank the people who've been important to me over the past 12 months (and in some cases, much, much longer). If you want to nominate someone, just shoot me a private message by 5:00 EDT on Thursday. There are only 3 requirements: 1) you have to be connected to the person you nominate 2) you can only nominate one person per week 3) you can’t nominate yourself 😀 If you want to provide a brief reason for your selection, that’s great, but it’s not a requirement. Let’s recognize people who make a difference simply by being nice. Have a great day, everyone. https://lnkd.in/gkSerTkc #network #sportsbiz #people #niceguy #networking #sportsmarketing

On every birthday and Thanksgiving, I watch The Wiz. My family thinks I’m strange. But the life lessons in this film don’t quit. Here are a few of my faves: 1. Comfort = complacency. Dorothy was a leader who, by the end of the film, had made a way for every person in her crew to discover the intrinsic gifts they had yet to claim. But she didn’t know that because she hadn’t tested her own limits. Lesson: You have to push yourself. Otherwise, you’ll never know how far you can go. 2. Haters will not only hate; they will also block. The scarecrow, who was strung up on a pole, was not only convinced that he couldn’t get down, but also that he was not smart. Lies. At almost every turning point in the movie, it was his bright idea that opened a new door or reframed a problem. Lesson: Others will try their hardest to hold you back when they can’t do what you can do or go where you’re going. Do your thing and walk your walk anyway, even if inelegantly at first. 3. There are no shortcuts. After Dorothy helped the scarecrow down from the pole, she tried to call a cab to get to The Wiz, but they all drove off. In true brainiac fashion, Scarecrow said, “Looks like we’re going to have to find our own yellow brick road,” and brick by brick, the road emerged. (See clip.) Lesson: Don’t be dismayed when the path seems unclear. Take one step at a time. One step becomes a stride. Each stride a stretch. And the stretches open to a world of possibilities. This is only thirty minutes or so into the movie. I could go to 50. Not kidding. If you’ve watched it, what are your favorite life lessons? #lifeadvice #lifelessons #sundaythoughts #wearethewaymakers #betheway #movies #thewiz #quincyjones Universal Pictures
