Yesterday, Global Alliance against Traffic in Women (GAATW) published the new issue of the journal Anti-Trafficking Review. This issue examines the impacts of #COVID19 on the lives of low-wage, migrant, and informal workers. Articles from Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas describes the experiences of temporary migrants, victims of #humantrafficking, sex workers, internally displaced persons, and #LGBTQ #asylum seekers with violence, exploitation, discrimination, racism, and (lack of) access to healthcare and social protections. Importantly, it draws lessons from the pandemic and makes policy recommendations to ensure that future disasters do not have the same negative impact on #humanrights. All articles are #openaccess https://lnkd.in/dvHxFVGc

Poland still sits at the end of the EU ranking with 18% points! So sad!🤐 "ILGA-Europe’s Rainbow Map annually ranks 49 European countries on a scale between 0% (gross violations of human rights, discrimination) and 100% (respect of human rights, full equality) on the basis of laws and policies that have a direct impact on LGBTI people’s human rights. The Map ranks each country under seven categories: equality and non-discrimination; family; hate crime and hate speech; legal gender recognition; intersex bodily integrity; civil society space; and asylum. ILGA-Europe are an independent, international non-governmental umbrella organisation uniting over 750 LGBTI organisations from 54 countries across Europe and Central Asia." https://lnkd.in/d8W2mQyt

I am delighted to launch Advancing the Women, Peace and Security (#wps ) Agenda in the Indo-Pacific: Advocacy Brief, which is released on the 23rd anniversary of the passing of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women Peace and Security (UNSCR 1325). Today is IDAHOBIT – the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination. A day to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community while raising awareness of the historical and continuing challenges it still faces. It’s important because of these staggering stats… 68% of LGBTQIA+ employees in Australia are not out to everyone at work. (Out at Work, 2018). 2 in 3 LGBTQIA+ youth experience abuse due to their identity. 35% of LGBTQIA+ Australians have experienced verbal abuse in the past 12 months. Read more about the history of IDAHOBIT https://lnkd.in/gUU_Zri5 Here are some ways you can get involved in IDAHOBIT: https://lnkd.in/gmzNT62J Show your support for the day with these free digital resources: https://lnkd.in/g3sjXS4w We stand with all LGBTQIA+ Queenslanders – everyone deserves to live and work without facing discrimination due to their gender or sexuality. #IDAHOBIT Minus18 Foundation

Help make NSW the equality state! In just a few weeks, the Equality Bill, a ground-breaking omnibus bill put forward by Alex Greenwich MP, will likely go up for debate in NSW State Parliament. The Equality Bill is a massive opportunity to dramatically improve the lives of our entire LGBTSBIQA+ community. If it passes it will update birth certificate laws to allow trans people to amend their gender markers without the need for surgery, better recognise rainbow families, improve discrimination protections, and complete the work to decriminalise sex work. However, these life-changing reforms are under threat. Anti-equality lobbyists have spent months stoking fear to try and fracture political support for the Bill. Furthermore, the NSW Government has thus far refused to pledge its support for the Bill in its entirety. We can't let this opportunity pass us by. That’s why next Monday we are hosting a snap webinar to mobilise support for the Equality Bill. On this free webinar you will have the opportunity to learn the latest information on the campaign, take action to support the Bill, and connect with others who are also ready to make a difference. RSVP now and together let's help make NSW the equality state. https://lnkd.in/gpu2Y9c9
