Exciting developments are underway in West Java as the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry announces progress in the construction of toll road access to Whoosh's Karawang Station. Highways Director General of the PUPR Ministry, Hedy Rahadian, shared that the land acquisition process is currently underway in collaboration with the State Asset Management Agency (LMAN). Anticipated to commence next year, this toll road access project aims to further enhance connectivity in the region.
The momentum for this project received a significant boost as the Cabinet Secretary Minister proposed its inclusion on the National Strategic Project (PSN) list. Once approved, the land acquisition process will be expedited, allowing LMAN to provide the necessary financing. The government's recognition of Whoosh high-speed railway as a PSN, with its remarkable speed of 350 kilometers per hour, promises to revolutionize travel. The Jakarta-Bandung route will be reduced from three hours to a mere 40 minutes, fostering increased mobility for both passengers and cargo.
This transformative high-speed railway, spanning 142.3 kilometers with elevated structures and tunnels, strategically stops at four stations: Halim, Karawang, Padalarang, and Tegalluar. The positive impact on economic competitiveness is undeniable, and the railway has already proven its significance with 352,000 passengers transported since commercial operations began on November 14, 2023. Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi, President Director of PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), highlights the increasing frequency of Whoosh's daily trips, now at an impressive 36, emphasizing its pivotal role in intercity transportation.
