Back in Jan we wrote a short blog about resolutions (see the link below). Survey's show 31% of those that make resolutions claim to have kept them all, 50% say they have kept some of them but only 16% confess to having failed in all. So, half way through the year how are you getting on with yours? If things are not going as planned then perhaps it's time to focus on building your self-esteem by meeting your intrinsic needs and not the expectations of others? An easy place to start is with applying the 5 Steps to Wellbing, which we explain in the blog. Give it a go and see what happens. https://lnkd.in/ePTnxqYJ

We’ve looked at strategies people are using to cope with financial pressures and discovered that, while not all coping strategies are the same, there are some common threads running through the cost-of-living crisis. Informed by omnibus research and our lived experience as researchers, this blog by our Research Director, Rebecca Dare discusses these common threads and shares how empathy plays a key role in how businesses can support their customers during this time. https://lnkd.in/gJYNvvcC

It's Loneliness Awareness Week this week, the aim of the campaign is to get people talking openly about their feelings of loneliness. One in five workers feel lonely at work on a typical working day, and we can all help. When you ask a friend, colleague, family member or even a stranger if they are ok, take time to listen to their reply and see what you might be able to do to help. If you’re feeling lonely today, take stock, take a deep breath and know you can take meaningful steps to create connections and build bonds. Read more about my research on social awkwardness with Tessa West in her latest Substack!
Professor of Psychology at New York University, author of Jerks at Work and the upcoming Job Therapy (Penguin Random House), and expert in interpersonal communication.
For my latest Substack, I teamed up with my student Sydney Phlegar to write about our on-going research on #social #awkardness. If you're worried about being awkward at work, fear no more. Awkwardness is something that is pretty common in social interactions. Yet, awkward moments are super sticky in memory--some of us hold onto ours for years! But fear not, being awkward is not a punishable offense in most people's eyes. But making fun of other people for being awkard? That is! I pull in data from my The Wall Street Journal piece on being the Office Jerk with Daniel Yudkinfor this one! I hope you enjoy.
Still thinking about that awkward run-in at work?

We stumbled across a common theme when gathering insights for our blog dedicated to #internationalmensday: men are more likely to speak about personal matters if the time and circumstances are right for them. The statistics show that those situations won't always present themselves, which is why employers must take steps to create them. 💙 Form a buddy system where the men in your business can decompress with those who understand the pressures they're dealing with - have 'walked a mile in their shoes'. 💙 Nurture a culture of openness, breaking down barriers and removing the stigma. 💙 Make exercise more affordable, giving them a healthy, active outlet. 💙 Ensure that trained counsellors are just a call away when they are ready to talk - no matter the time of day.
