I love volunteering and doing things that help others. I always say my favorite people are the children and youth. I love learning from them, spending time with them, and showing them love through actions. The world has enough negativity and is not ready for them, so if I can be someone who shows them another way, then I will. That’s why one of my favorite seasons is college application season. I love helping high school students create their personal essays and short answers. Youth Giving shines a light on young people who are using their resources—time, talent, treasure—to support their communities. Money is a great resource, but it is not the only, and sometimes not the most important, one in bringing about hope and change. It’s great to see how innovation and dreams come alive around the world when youth take the lead. One of the tools I use to bring about change is language, specifically Twi. In sharing Twi and Akan culture in the diaspora, I’m providing a bridge between generations and cultures. The video below is an interview from last year on the importance of giving back and using your talent, whatever it may be, to support your community. #volunteering
🌍 Happy #FlashbackFriday! Today, let’s shine a spotlight on our ambassador, Abigail Osei, MSOL (AVP, The Starr Foundation and passionate author of "Let's Learn Twi" among others). Abigail's mission is to preserve Ghanaian language and culture by supporting families outside of Africa in embracing their heritage, ensuring children grow up proud of their roots. Let's celebrate #Diversity and empower future generations to embrace their identities! 📚🇬🇭 #GhanaianCulture #LanguagePreservation #YouthGiving #SocialImpact #Changemakers #YouthGivingAmbassadors #YouthEmpowerment

Continuing the exploration of cultural factors influencing volunteering in Europe: what you see here is a map of the historically dominant religions in Europe. 🗺️ Map Insights: Blue areas: Historically Catholic Purple areas: Historically Protestant (various denominations) If you recall the map in my previous post showing volunteer rates, there's a clear concentration of countries with high volunteer rates in Europe. There is a clear correlation here with historically Protestant areas, supported by two studies I came across. 📚 Study Highlights: “Catholic values are (...) more weakly linked to volunteering.” Source: Benito Arruñada, Protestants and Catholics: Similar Work Ethic, Different Social Ethic (2010) Prof. Arruñada's Study traces the origins back to the Reformation, which empowered the laity. The disappearance of the church organization and priests left a vacuum, requiring people to become less passive in their communities. Volunteering also became a mutual social control mechanism. A study from the European Economic and Social Committee Study finds that that historically Protestant and Catholic countries score differently, with the latter generally exhibiting slightly lower volunteer rates. (Source: New trends in the development of volunteering in the European Union, European Economic and Social Committee Study (2021)) Europe may have become much more secular, but religion still has a strong influence on culture, which contributes to volunteering rates. Understanding these cultural underpinnings can help us better engage and support our volunteers, leveraging historical and cultural contexts to foster stronger community involvement. 🔗 Let's dive deeper into these cultural insights and discuss how we can enhance volunteer engagement across Europe! #Volunteering #CommunityEngagement #AssociationProfessionals #EuropeanCulture #HistoricalInfluences #ProtestantReformation #Volunteerism #CulturalFactors

#Didyouknow many children living with disabilities from #Ukraine struggle to find regular access to specialist care in their own language, or places at suitable education centers in #Poland? Our latest research found that language barriers, lack of information, and lengthy administrative procedures were the main challenges for children getting the support they need. The findings are based on interviews with caregivers, educators, and practitioners providing support to children and their families in Wrocław, Łódź, Lublin, and Kraków, through our partner organizations Fundacja Rozwoju Dzieci and #Patchwork. The report also includes recommendations for donors, NGOs, and the Government of Poland. Find more: https://lnkd.in/dJHME3xW #childrenwithdisabilities #inclusion Plan International

It identifies that the UK has donated just £13.4 million annually to support international LGBTQI issues, yet still ranks as one of the top donors, accounting for 15% of global giving in this area, underscoring just how under-funded LGBTQI issues are in the Global South and East. UK trust and foundation funding for LGBTQI issues internationally in 2019/20 averaged £8.6 Million, this equates to 26p in every £100 of all UK foundation giving. UK Government funding for LGBTQI issues internationally in 2019/20 averaged £3 Million, this equates to 2p in every £100 of all international development funding. UK Corporate funding for LGBTQI issues internationally in 2019/20 averaged 1.2 Million, this equates to 6p in every £100 of all UK Corporate charitable giving. And UK Individuals funding for LGBTQI issues internationally in 2019/20 averaged £605,000, this equates to 3p in every £100 given to charities in the UK by individual donors.
