A showcase of testing the Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) computer! The full ADCS (yet to be acquired), manufactured by CubeSpace ADCS, will use magnetorquer coils and rods to interact with Earth’s magnetic field in order to orient the satellite. It will automatically stabilize the satellite after it is injected into orbit, enabling us to establish a communication link, and will allow us to perform a 90 degree rolling maneuver throughout the mission in order to operate the MPI in its two different modes. The reference simulation on the left shows the ideal performance of the ADCS, while the Hardware in the Loop (HIL) simulation on the right is connected to the computer-only ADCS to show us how the algorithms are performing on the real hardware. #UCalgary #YYC #space #CalgaryToSpace #Schulich

There are a plethora of options available, that are all situationally dependent. Things to consider are the specific threats involved to the specific assets. How can we use the operational environment to our advantage, not only for mission success, but also for defense? There are no trees or hills to hid behind in orbit, but there are other objects that could be a type of chaff or blocker (in the event of kinetic attack). Is a connected refueling/servicing satellite able to have an alternate use after it has fulfilled its mission? Also, how might we use orbital mechanics to our advantage in both offensive and defensive operations? Nothing should be removed from the table unless it's physically impossible. Technologically unachievable options need to be sent to R&D facilities to invent the technologies. What's physically and technologically possible should be prioritized for cost/benefit and then implemented (at least as a proof-of-concept). Our adversaries are thinking outside the box in order to catch and eventually surpass us in the realm of Space. If we wish to maintain the advantage, we must do the same.

🛰️ Development Update 🛰️ Three months from Kick-off until the breadboard of the feed is tested The picture shows our breadboard model of the feed developed by HPS for the #BANT antenna during the RF test done at MVG | Microwave Vision Group Italy using the StarLab measurement system. The purpose of the test is to #validate the feed design by comparing the RF simulations with the results of the measurement. Adopting the New Space approach, it took only three months from the project Kick-off until the breadboard of the feed is tested. The flight model of the BANT antenna, where this feed will be installed, will be ready to be integrated on the #spacecraft at the end of this year, the satellite will be then placed in Low Earth Orbit for a remote sensing mission.
