💻𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲. 💡We are organising a conference on the 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐜 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 that will bring together interdisciplinary experts and actors from the public sector, private sector & civil society. The conference aims to explore the most pressing civic problems, and collectively develop a problem statement that will form the basis of the upcoming civic hackathon.  🔎𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐜 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧?  It is a short, intense event with a diverse group of participants, including technologists, policy experts, community organisers, and engaged citizens that come together to work on creative digital solutions for civic issues. The goal is to foster innovation and create tangible solutions that benefit the local community through digital projects like apps and softwares. Next up: City of Ottawa Activities listing 🏸 The problem: How can we make #Ottawa's recreation programs' information more easily searchable? Claudie Larouche was frustrated navigating the City of Ottawa's website to find information on its dozens of recreation facilities. Like many other residents, she wanted the information in one central location online. 🏸 The solution: A website listing all available activities with filter options With the help of AI, she created her own activity search tool with information such as hours and location. 🏸 The result: More residents taking advantage of Ottawa's recreational offerings! The Centre for Public Impact, the Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation, and the Knight Foundation saw a need, and together created a program: a 22-week design sprint, involving community leaders, government problem-solvers from City of Akron, Ohio, Macon-Bibb County Consolidated Government, Miami-Dade County, City of Detroit and pro bono technologists from Googleorg. CHIP was born from the recognition that the lack of access to information intensifies the already challenging living conditions for displaced individuals along the Northern coast of France, increasing their vulnerability along the Franco-British border. Their mission is to combat this significant information gap by collaborating with a network of organisations across France, the United Kingdom, and the EU, delivering multilingual, reliable, and regularly updated information. Through initiatives like providing electric charging and Wi-Fi connection sessions near living areas, facilitating access to essential services, and creating a multilingual guide for newcomers in Calais and Dunkirk, CHIP is making a tangible difference in the lives of displaced individuals. By integrating Get Box into their operations, they've seen increased attendance at charging sessions, easier navigation to essential service locations, and over 300 individuals benefiting from Wi-Fi access just last week, with over 600 individuals in March alone.
