More improvements from Al Ain City Municipality's road safety project. These junctions were tricky. Very old standard direct tapers onto a major E road, and not suitable for the posted speed limit. However, upgrading them all to be fully compliant with current standards would have blown the budget. Most of them access farm areas and small settlements and don't need full freeway style access. Therefore we took the decision to improve them all (over a dozen junctions) as best we could compared to upgrading just one to fully meet the standards. Much safer overall now. Sits well with the old RSA phrase "Just because its not to standard doesn't mean that its unsafe. Just because it is to standard doesn't mean that it is safe". (The differing colours of edge lines are due to standards changes in the last few years, all edge lines should now be yellow however the old road is still to the old standard and will be updated in the next maintenance cycle)

The Scottish Government has published a joint consultation with UK Treasury on devolving powers to Scotland for its own Scottish Building Safety Levy, complementing the proposed English equivalent.
