I'm really excited to be writing this post recognizing, of all folks, Chambers and Partners, the legal ratings guide. Considered by many to be *the* authority, they have been recognizing the leading law firms and lawyers in just about every field of law since 1990. This year, for the very first time, they ranked #impact #investing as its own distinct practice category. This is an incredibly important #milestone if we are going to move to a future where "impact investing" simply becomes "investing" - ie the idea that all investments take a long-term, value-added approach, where the investment's performance is measured in terms of its effect on a broad array of stakeholders, and where both the financial and non-financial value created are recognized, accounted for, and built into the idea of "success". I believe #Lawyers, as well as other players within the economic ecosystem, are essential to making this #vision a #reality. A huge congratulations to Chambers & Partners for recognizing excellence in the field of impact investing, and the work of an ever-growing community of brilliant and visionary lawyers - many of whom Chambers haven’t yet heard of 😉. https://lnkd.in/eHKK733p

"The importance of coalitions in shifting rules" - a clear header in this interesting update from our partners at Omidyar Network... follow the link below to read 📰
Two years ago, Omidyar Network launched a new focus area – Corporations, Capital Markets, and the Common Good – as part of our commitment to Reimagining Capitalism. Two core beliefs have underpinned this work. First, that business can be a powerful force for good, harnessing human ingenuity to solve big problems while providing good jobs and economic security for families and communities. But second, that our corporations and capital markets too often contribute to the major problems America faces today – from inequality to climate change to racial injustice – because the current system all too often incentivizes the pursuit of profits in ways that harm workers, communities, and the planet. We believe the greatest challenges in the current system don’t stem from decisions of individual business leaders, but rather are rooted in the rules, incentives and power structures that drive how all investors and CEOs behave. In light of this, we’ve focused our work on corporate governance as a key nexus point for the most consequential decisions that companies and investors make. We’re sharing some key learnings from this work in a series of posts over the next month – the first focuses on what we’ve learned in advancing policy reforms that set the framework for corporate decision making. In it, we share the work of many of our grantees and partners. We’re grateful to be in partnership with so many individuals and organizations committed to building a future in which we realize the full potential of corporations and capital markets to contribute to the common good.
