Empowering smart, ambitious women executives and business owners to lead with courage after trauma | Mum to aspiring pro-golfer | HSP | P/T Professor.
In a recent business quiz, in response to the statement "I have a hobby or pastime that brings me joy" 33% of respondents stated that they don't have time for hobbies as they are too busy supporting other people; 52% said they do something for themselves every day that brings them joy, and 14% claim they work too hard to have a hobby. Many of us (myself included) are juggling multiple responsibilities, from work and family to social obligations and community involvement. It can be easy to prioritize others' needs over our own, leading to a lack of time and energy for personal hobbies or pastimes. However, the data also shows that just over half of respondents do make time for themselves and prioritize activities that bring them joy. Taking time to engage in hobbies, whether it's reading, painting, gardening, or any other activity that brings you happiness, can help reduce stress, improve mental health, and increase overall satisfaction with life. The 14% of respondents who believe they work too hard to have a hobby may be missing out on a valuable opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation. While it's commendable to be dedicated to your work and career, especially if you are driven by a deep purpose, it's also crucial to find a balance so you have the energy to achieve your goals. Ultimately, having a hobby or pastime that brings you joy is not a luxury, but a necessity. So, if you find yourself in the camp of not having time for hobbies or working too hard to have one, consider re-evaluating your priorities and making space for activities that bring you joy. Instead of just getting through a change, expect more! Every change presents an opportunity to strengthen relationships and build trust. Rather than thinking, “how can we get through this change with the least impact on productivity as possible?,” you can ask, “how can this change be made and increase our joy in the process?” The first statement is a rational business question but misses the traction you can get through people by asking the second question. Even the most mundane business changes framed this way have the potential to uplift the organization. Change is a normal part of your work experience -- you may as well be great at it! #joyatwork #changeleadership #changemanagement #workplaceculture #thechangedecision

Become the Best Version of Yourself May 20, 2014 Organize for Success Millions of words are written each year to tell people how to be more successful. As an author, I’ve contributed to this message. Most of us get up each morning and react to our world. It’s not a bad choice, but it’s void of any plan. Learn what moves you to action and what you would do if you were never paid to do that activity. Happiness comes from doing what you enjoy and tapping into your desires and talents. On the latter, you can develop talent to reach that happiness level. Dedication to your desired destination is the way to deliver your destiny. Study efficiency practices and put them into your daily habits. Remember habits make you and habits can break you. Success is a journey. Planning is an integral part of this process. Create your plan, get help if needed, and get to work. Effort is needed. Lazy must exit your life. In the coming months, raise your commitment to become the best version of yourself. You can learn more by reading my book, Become the Best Version of Yourself—21 Undeniable Lessons to Create the Life You Want. It’s available on Amazon or directly from me should you want a personalized copy. Check out any of my other five books on Amazon for more ideas and strategies to bring more success into your life and career. It’s all part of an organized plan and focus your efforts for better outcomes. Life demands organization and focus. Get both from reading books, especially mine! (smile). Also check out my website, https://lnkd.in/e2xuYh4 for the many other offerings I bring to my clients. You’ll be glad you did, particularly when a solution surfaces.

Ever feel like you're always busy but getting nowhere? So much so that you think to yourself - what difference will this make? Leading change can sometimes feel like it’s beyond our reach. Today, we’re in a new era - to drive meaningful impact, our ability to drive change as individuals effectively is crucial, no matter who you are and what your position is. From frontline employees to CEOs and founding partners, everyone has a role to play within their organisation. We are all leaders and have the power to initiate change. The lightning speed at which we operate and the many conflicting approaches to effectively influencing those around us can be challenging, especially when you feel your efforts aren’t delivering the results you set out to achieve. Staying focused, determined, and motivated is an undeniable force in becoming a true champion of progress. However, here are four reasons you might not have considered that could impact your efforts. 1️⃣ You're Too Focused on Tasks Are you constantly tied to your to-do list? One of the biggest challenges we face today is the internal battle we have with ourselves on how we spend our time and whether we are making the most efficient use of it. Nothing feels more satisfying than checking off tasks, but sometimes, the best ideas come when we step back. How much white space do you have in your calendar this week to allow for some 'thinking' time? 2️⃣ Consistency is Lacking Creating change, whether big or small, is challenging. The more we can lean into our neural pathway, the more developed it becomes. The more developed the path, the more automatic it becomes. Being consistent allows us to incubate the ideal conditions to ensure that the change we want to make sticks for good. 3️⃣ You're Ignoring Your Emotions Workplaces often encourage leaving emotions at the door, but that's not always helpful. Emotions play a significant role in decision-making and learning, so suppressing them might limit our potential to grow. Cultivating growth also requires compassion for ourselves and those around us, and this simple act of kindness can be undervalued, allowing for humility and authenticity to shine through in our work. 4️⃣ Your Network Needs Refreshing: Are you feeling stagnant or in a routine rut? It might be time to go outside your usual network. This might mean going outside your comfort zone and involving yourself in things like attending a networking event in an industry other than your own or putting your hand up for a secondment in a different role, office location, or team environment to gain new perspectives. What about getting some hands-on experience by doing volunteer work? Recognising these signs and making necessary adjustments can pave the way for meaningful change and create a brighter future for ourselves and those around us. Tell us, what else could be impacting your progress? #leadingchange #everyonematters Full article: https://lnkd.in/dHKxMntN

This profoundly resonates with me and nails a fundamental truth: success hinges on consistent, small steps and the strategy of embracing accountability is a game-changer. Setting goals is easy; sticking to them without accountability is where most people falter. This article eloquently reinforces that our habits dictate our future (both in our professional and personal endeavors) and it’s a potent reminder that real progress demands disciplined, incremental actions, with accountability as the linchpin.

Over the weekend I was reflecting on a conversation I had at Huddle Digital about change. I mentioned this before, but we're going through a period of change at Huddle and it's really important to me that it's managed in an empathetic way. In the past, I've found myself quite resistant to significant changes, both personally and professionally and that's because it often felt destabilising. It wasn't managed well and I was left feeling adrift. A prime example of this kind of change is a redundancy that came out of the blue, was effective immediately and was managed poorly 😑 As I reflected on this, I thought about how I manage change with my kids. If their routine is changing, or even if a pretty minor thing is going to be different, I take the time to explain to them why and help them understand it. It usually pays dividends because we avoid some big, unmanageable emotions that leave us all feeling unhappy and tense. I'm really passionate about delivering change with empathy. Whilst it's not always possible to get the buy-in of whole teams or companies before agreeing a change, it can still be handled in a way that allows people to feel comfortable in sharing their feelings about it. The way people respond to change can be the difference between whether your idea is a success or not. And their thoughts and feelings about it are valid. They might come up with reasons why idea X won't work and maybe why you should try idea Y (which as it turns out, is a better idea!) instead. Ultimately, change is necessary. One of Huddle's values is continuous improvement and that means regularly reflecting on what we're doing, how we're doing it and refining it to create a better experience for the team and for our clients. If anyone has an tips about managing change that they want to share below 👇 please do. I'd love to hear from others on this topic.
