In this course, I learned about the different facets of Information Technology, like computer hardware, the Internet, computer software, troubleshooting, and customer service. While these may seem simple or familiar, I have learned some new things throughout the course. This course is also suitable for revising the basics. I recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in technology. The January 2024 FOA Newsletter Is Online We always like to start off the New Year with a review of the past year and some thoughts on the coming year. For the last few years, we used the word "uncertainty" often in our New Year review, but this year is looking less uncertain. FOA had a good year in 2023, Certifications have recovered from the pandemic and are growing. FOA is adding many new schools including community and technical colleges that now recognize the need for more practical education that leads to jobs in the trades. By next year we should be able to report a milestone - 100,000 certified techs on our 30th anniversary. For all holders of FOA certifications, we have converted your certification to an online credential. You can show and share your online credential for your FOA certification and you can now print a certificate for your wall that shows all your certifications. Read more. The Newsletter also has a great story that shows the immediate value of fiber optic connectivity. The state of Kentucky, which has completed their statewide fiber optic backbone with the assistance of 1200 CFOTs trained by 9 Kentucky Community and Technical Colleges, saw massive jumps in rating for the connectivity of their schools and rankings as a place to locate a business. It shows the power of properly planned fiber optic networks. Don't miss the things we see for 2024. And the article about the "shark bite" myth. In the January Issue: • 2023 At FOA • 2023 In The Fiber Industry • 2024 Preview • All FOA Certification Credentials Are Online • Design Curriculum In Spanish • Links To Resources On Broadband • Kentucky Benefits From Statewide Fiber • Do Shark Bites Cause Fiber Cable Failures? • What's Malibu, California Up To? Plus many good links on more articles to read and interesting technical questions from our readers. Read about it in the FOA Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/ezePBkn
Springtime is a busy time for FOA schools. Here are some photos from recent classes and a news article about one FOA school offering training in the trades.

Tales from the Substitue's Classroom: Lesson 2️⃣ [Tech Wizards We Salute You] Have you ever worked with a SmartBoard? It often feels like you need a PhD in computer science to navigate it, and I need to have one. So, walking into my class to substitute and realizing the computer I used the previous day to work the SmartBoard was gone, leaving a pit in my stomach. I knew how to work the board with the laptop, but I needed to know how to get to the website I needed without that connection. T-minus 10 minutes and my first class will arrive. #HoustonWeHaveAProblem I'll admit that patience isn't my strong suit when technology acts up. (And no, it wasn't a user error this time!) It took the combined efforts of another teacher and the principal to help troubleshoot. After 15 minutes of agony, we manually entered what felt like a never-ending web address into the SmartBoard. It was tedious, but eventually, the website for our lesson appeared—nothing short of a miracle. So, what's the business connection here? It's all about the heroes behind the scenes—our IT professionals. They're the unsung heroes who troubleshoot our tech woes and ensure our servers and platforms function flawlessly daily. I was missing my favorite IT wizards today. While I always tried to thank them, I could have done more to show appreciation for what they do - they're a lifeline at times for the business. If our computers, phones, servers, and platforms are down - we cannot function. They are mission-critical. Did you know that there's National IT Professionals Day? This annual holiday celebrates the tireless work of those who keep our digital world running smoothly. It's on September 17 this year, but there's no need to wait to celebrate these amazing men and women. Here's a fun little Ode you can use to celebrate your favorite IT heroes. And it's only fitting that I used technology to create this for our tech heroes! Thanks, ChaptGPT! {Ode to IT Professionals} Oh, wizards of the digital realm, Masters of the code's mystic spell, In the labyrinth of bytes you delve, Making machines and systems excel. Guardians of data, silent and strong, You keep our networks safe all day long. Troubleshooters, ever vigilant, Your expertise is a beacon radiant. From servers humming to software's tune, You ensure our tech world stays in tune. With patience and skill, you mend each glitch, In the vast universe of the digital pitch. So here's to you, IT mavens dear, For keeping our digital frontier clear. Your mastery and diligence we extol, For you are the heroes of the cyber patrol. So, here's to the IT wizards who make the digital magic happen! 🙌 Let's show love to your favorite IT Heroes in the comments below.
