Navigating the Human Element in Construction 🤗 In the construction industry, our projects are built with more than just concrete and steel; they are shaped by the diverse and dynamic human elements involved. As a construction professional, I find myself constantly interacting with a wide range of individuals—engineers, laborers, foremen, supervisors, and managers. Each person brings their unique skills, perspectives, and, yes, emotions and egos to the table. It's a challenging but rewarding aspect of our field. Effective communication, empathy, and understanding are crucial in fostering a collaborative environment where everyone feels valued and heard. It's about finding common ground and working together towards our shared goals, despite the differences in our roles and viewpoints. Every day, I strive to balance technical demands with the interpersonal skills required to lead and support my team. By acknowledging and addressing the human element in our projects, we not only build better structures but also stronger, more cohesive teams. Let's continue to build with integrity, respect, and a recognition of the vital human aspect of our work. #Construction #Leadership #Teamwork #Communication #HumanElement #ConstructionLeadership #civilengineer

Author: The Lion Attitude - 8/15! | Action+Connection | I+M+P+A+C=T | AEC Leadership Development | Technical Sales Leadership | MEP Engineer & Energy Specialist | 3rd Generation HVAC | Keynote & Motivational Speaker
It's time to re-introduce myself to all this great world of people on LinkedIn as part of my launch of my new book The Lion Attitude. The Lion Attitude is a leadership development system built for the design & construction world. My name is Kirby Lee and I worked in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry for 23 years and live in the beautiful area of Raleigh, NC. 🦁 I have been married for nearly 17 years and have a now 7 year old little girl that was born on Christmas Eve 🦁 I practiced consulting engineering for 18 years specifically in the Mechanical Engineering realm. One of my most enjoying able things during my design time was actually energy modeling which is a very high end simulation of energy consumption of buildings. 🦁 My father ran a HVAC Construction company and doing commercial & industrial work all around eastern North Carolina. My grand father started the business in the 1950's so I am now 3rd generation in our field. 🦁 I didn't get into engineering school at NC State initially and had to take a route going into community college which was the best thing that happened to me. 🦁 It took me 13 years to get my Professional Engineering license instead of the traditional 4 that most do in my field. 🦁 I got to experience other aspects of design & construction including being an owners representative and working in HVAC equipment sales. All of these experiences during my 23 year career showed something common each time in the design and construction industry: 🦁 We do not teach technical professionals leadership skills. 🦁 The skills we teach always come from an outsider that has no experience in our field. 🦁 We assume a technical professional in design & construction will be a good leader since they were a good architect / contractor / engineer. I recently spoke to a owner of an engineering firm about the need for a specialized leadership development system like The Lion Attitude and his first response was this: "Every leadership program I taught was never relevant to our field so I never used any of it. I had to half build my own stuff from scratch and what you are doing is going to change our entire industry." My message to all the AEC field is I am here to reinvent leadership in every aspect from the ground up. Leadership is the reason many companies either will be successful or not in the design & construction space. It's time to give this special field a leadership development system built by an AEC professional for the AEC field. Now it's my turn to ask for help....I am calling out to our LinkedIn community to walk on a journey to reinvent leadership for the AEC industry. Will you come on this journey with me....? Roaring out to all the Lions and Lionesses this morning! Rise up Lions and Fight for your Life! Intention + Motivation + Purpose + Attack + Connect = Triumph (IMPACT) #AttackAndConnect #LionPride #courage #strength #bravery #leadership #heart #lionattitude
