🌟 Member's Monday Spotlight 🌟 This week, we're thrilled to feature Sam Nhairy, CTIS. Sam has more than twenty-five years of experience in the hospitality and travel and tour industries in the US, England, and Morocco. Mr. Nhairy is the founder of NHAIRY & LAWRENCE CORPORATION, INC , the parent of Hospitality Marketing Services (HMS) and Morocco Destination Management (MDM). Nhairy began his career at the American Language Center in Casablanca where he taught beginning English classes. Prior to founding his own companies, he held sales and operations management positions for a variety of U.S. hotels such as Marriott, Best Western and Choice Hotels as well as tour and travel firms. Mr. Nhairy is an active member of a number of industry associations including the American Bus Association (ABA), Skal, and the North Carolina Motorcoach Association (NCMA). Mr. Nhairy is also a member of several civic organizations including the American Moroccan Professional Association and Atlas Foundation. For most of his professional career, Mr. Nhairy has promoted bilateral tourism and cultural exchange between the United States and Morocco. A native of Casablanca, Morocco, he has served as a Morocco tourism expert for TravelTalk Media radio. Some activities he has organized include cultural student exchange programs to Morocco, product development fam trips, Moroccan musical events in Washington, DC, wheelchair donations to Morocco, and sponsorship of the first annual Moroccan American Professional Association conference. Mr. Nhairy is a graduate of the Hotel Professional School of Marrakech, Morocco and the Cal Simmons Travel School's travel agent program. He earned his certified travel industry specialist certificate from Purdue University. He speaks fluent French and Arabic. He resides in the Washington, DC area. In recent months, we have worked closely with Marriott International's Digital Field Marketing team to enhance our digital footprint in China, including launching our Chinese language hotel website for ease of browsing and booking. Our property team have also ensured we cater to the travel preferences of our Chinese customer-base to bring us closer to this growing audience segment. In 2016, Dubai announced visas-on-arrival for Chinese nationals and within three years China grew to become the emirate's fifth-largest source market with nearly 1 million annual visitors. Although these numbers plummeted during the pandemic, a 2023 article by Skift reported on the gradual recovery with China breaking into the top 10 source markets by April, and by July placing it as the eighth-largest source market with 328,000 visitors, a 311% increase since the start of the year.

Disappointing lack of progress on this front … but will be a real breakthrough when it comes, both for integrating Hengqin with Macau and for boosting the MICE industry. The potential for Macau to build 100,000 hotel rooms in Hengqin over the next decade should not be laughed off. Vegas didn’t get to where it is today in a couple of years. It took decades for it to become America’s conventions king. Macau and Hengqin could become the same for China - while eclipsing Singapore and Hong Kong as the region’s premier MICE destination.
