🦅 Africa's Birds of Prey in Decline 🌍 Recent research has revealed a significant decline for nearly all of the 42 raptor species surveyed in sub-Saharan regions. 📉 Chief Scientist Stuart Butchart and his team at BirdLife International are reviewing and revising the status of each species mentioned in the study. This crucial task will guide conservation strategies and inform governmental policies. 📚🌳 At BirdLife International, our strategy emphasises collaboration with local communities to preserve biodiversity-rich areas. Last week, world leaders gathered in Samarkand, Uzbekistan for the Fourteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals—or #CMSCOP14. This year, the conference theme is "Nature Knows No Borders" in recognition that migratory species do not adhere to political boundaries and that their survival is dependent on international collaboration and global conservation efforts. Migratory birds travel immense distances, relying on healthy habitats along the way. When they cross national borders, their survival depends on the efforts of all countries in which they are found. That's why we've shifted towards a hemispheric approach to conservation, directing our work to the places where birds need us the most.
