RTLS in Mainstream Medical and Healthcare Environments: A Deep Dive "...hospitals themselves are what we term “#complexphysicalenvironments,” meaning they feature many different building materials, complex HVAC systems, competing signals from machinery like CT scanners or X-rays, multiple floors, hallways, tunnels, commercial kitchens packed with metal… the list goes on and on. These kinds of complex environments pose difficulties for traditional #RTLSsolutions since many rely on outdated technology that fails to get signals where they need to go quickly and accurately, resulting in suboptimal tracking and efficiency outcomes. #RTLS like Actall Corporation's, which combines #wearabletags with strategically placed #locators, #dualbandfrequency and #signalprioritization for #duress signals, can quickly get backup where it’s needed Hospitals also require #accuratetracking of equipment large and small to keep costs down In terms of your hospital’s bottom line, #efficiency couldn’t be more important." https://lnkd.in/gyGDFjHf Bob Hampe Josh Childs Donald Millick Kyle Freeman Stephen Sullivan CSM, ITIL v3 Bonnie Stevens Mark Winter 🇦🇺inTechnology Distribution Pty Ltd IPFusion AMS Rep Associates, LLC. "Regular #healthcare construction projects are instrumental in keeping the lights on in the incredibly demanding healthcare field. More specifically, the state of facilities is critical to patients’ perceptions of care quality; employee attraction and #retention; and #compliance with ever-evolving facility #standards, environmental requirements and building codes. Therefore, a healthcare construction project goes way beyond slapping a new coat of paint on the walls. Often, it requires years of active construction. And, although there will always be hurdles to any project regardless of industry or building type, health care construction projects are uniquely difficult to navigate — whether dealing with lengthened equipment lead times or additional budget considerations." I was invited to my alma mater, NID, a few weeks ago during the service design module to talk about how services are designed in the industry. Thank you Anannya Bhowmik for thinking about me :) I presented the Philips Virtual Care Management service (https://lnkd.in/dm6eC2N2) and went deeper into the patient experience because that's the touchpoint I design for. We didn't do the usual "empathize and iterate" spiel or maps/blueprints (because, duh..), and dove straight into the interesting discussions about... - affordances in the context of services. - designing in a highly regulated environment like healthcare. - the effects of the systemic conditions, inside which the service operates, on its design. - balancing business incentives, user goals, and patient safety. Especially for this service where the persona who decides to buy the service (hospital admin or CIO), who uses the service (physician or nurse), who is served (the patient), and who pays for the service (insuror), could be all different. - and finally, what could service design look like from the lens of universal design? The last one is very much an open question and I'd like to ask you, the reader, about what you think! PS, we also won the 2024 iF award in the service design category.
